Spartacus: War Of The Damned - Blood Brothers - 3/1/13
Spartacus puts a plan in motion to weaken Crassus forces and gain the upper hand. Betrayal threatens to foil the plan.

Freakin' pirates.
Thought for sure Agron was going to die at the end. I guess they're saving that for early next episode because those 3 at the gate are screwed.

That is no way to treat your mother. And boy do they like jumping in slow mo.
No gate, a fleet about to land, enemies inside and outside the city. Things are looking bad for the slave rebellion. Lucky for them they have Deathstroke on their side.

oh, they are certainly taking liberties with history, ie the whole Julius Caesar angle, but I doubt they would let people live who historically didn't, and kill off those who survived. Unless, as previously mentioned, they go the QT route.
I'm hoping for an ambiguous death for our heroes, with that glint of hope that they somehow survived. Doubtful tho.

It's only assumed that Spartacus died. He could have been killed in battle. He could have been executed by the Romans. He might have gotten away and lived to a ripe old age somewhere. Very little is known about him.

Josh is right. I actually did some Googling because I was curious what happened to Spartacus, what happened to the Roman empire, what happened to slavery (wondering if the revolt had any lasting impact), etc. My reading showed Spartacus was never found and only assumed dead.
I've always known this wouldn't end well, but this episode felt like the definitive point where it's all downhill from here. Long live the freedom fighting warriors.
Can anyone describe more the liberties they're taken (especially in regards to Julius Caesar)?

I figured he'd get the Kurt Douglas ending. I always thought that was actually historical.

I highly recommend Colleen McCullough's magnificent Masters of Rome series of seven novels covering Marius and Sulla through Antony, Cleopatra and (early) Augustus. Lots of Caesar in between. Fiction, but thoroughly and intensely researched.

Putting Julius Caesar in this sort of like what Alan Moore did with From Hell and the cameos from the Elephant Man and Benjamin Harrison. It's something that could have happened, but there's no historical record of it happening.

I doubt there gonna go the historical route. As mentioned above its incredibly vague as to what actually happened to Spartacus. But back to the series this episode had quite abit of badassery. It really felt like the final act was about to start.
I'm actually expecting a V For Vendetta / Kubrick's Spartacus type ending.

Where Spartacus screwed up in Blood Brothers was not taking the ship somewhere, anywhere and going on about his living. Even he has to know that the Romans are just toying with him and when the cat gets tired they're going to squash them. But no, he comes back and look at what was wrought.
Yeah, I know that's a complete rewrite of history but it's more believable.

As for the "baddies", Crassus and Caesar will survive of course. Tiberius is a dead man walking and I don't think things are looking so hot for Crassus' #1 slave Kore either.

My prediction for the finale is that all the heroes will be killed off (Crixus, Gannicus, Agron, Nasir, & Naevia) except Spartacus and maybe that Roman chick. He will ride off into the sunset and live a quiet life far from the eyes of Rome. The slave rebellion had no impact on Roman society and slavery continued in the empire for centuries.

I see them all dying except Agron and Nasir. Neither are real people from history. Having them together could be somewhat of a "happy ending" despite everyone else dying.

I think the person most likely to survive is Gannicus. They seem to setting up some sort of romance between him and that new girl. I see them living happily ever after together.

This talk of Spartacus' true history led me to his wiki page, and something tells me Spartacus would not have been pleased with this statue of him.
