Supernatural -- "Man's Best Friend with Benefits" -- 02/20/2013

SUPERNATURAL - (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 20)

"Man's Best Friend with Benefits"

Spoiler:
DEAN REALLY DOESN'T LIKE WITCHES - A police officer named Kevin (guest star Christian Campbell), who turned to witchcraft after working a case with Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles), is plagued by nightmares in which he murders innocent people. However, when the murders actually happen, Sam and Dean are called in by Kevin's "familiar" (guest star Mishael Morgan) to help -- but the brothers aren't sure they want to save a witch. John Showalter directed the episode written by Brad Buckner & Eugenie Ross-Leming (#815).

Re: Supernatural -- "Man's Best Friend with Benefits" -- 02/20/2013

A disappointing stand-alone episode. It seemed like a waste of an episode, for the most part, taking too long to get to a far too predictable ending.

This season is now like a mirror image of last year. Last season, I didn't care for the mythology arc episodes (with Dick and the Leviathans) but I did like a lot of the stand-alone episodes a year ago. This season, it's the opposite with the mythology getting interesting now but the stand-alone episodes are mostly dull.

this episode smelled like a shitty backdoor pilot for that witchcop and doglady. In fact, that should be the name of it. I am a Supernatural apologist, and even I have to say that this episode sucked ass.

I think the entire point of the episode was just so they could use the play on words combining "Man's Best Friend" and "Friend With Benefits" as the episode's title. Aside from that pun, I can see no reason for this episode even existing.

I thought it was a good episode, even if it didn't really feel like an episode of Supernatural. Clearly a test by the CW for the two guest stars in their lead roles. The CW is obsessed with using witches and witchcraft, it seemingly makes an appearance on all of their shows in some form. If I didn't know better, I would say their executives are practicing Wiccans.

What felt off about the episode is that Sam and Dean seemed totally unfamiliar with the practices of the witches, which doesn't jive with their long history in dealing with magic as hunters.

This whole season seems to be a series of backdoor pilots (Me and My Golem, Witch Cop, etc)

This episode was pretty terrible. It was like a Canadian/90s/sci-fi channel series. Plus a black chick in chains with a master and a guy who has sex with dogs?

Misha Collins is back as a series regular in season 9!

Thank goodness they finally added Castiel back on the show. I wouldn't even mind it if he returns as a normal human and has to become a hunter alongside Sam and Dean.

I'm thinking they'll be bringing these characters back at some point. They've killed off so many recurring characters that they're having to re-up this year since the show is sticking around.

Running a few eps behind and just caught up with this one.
