Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome -- 2 Hour Movie -- 2/10/13

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome (a prequel to the critically acclaimed hit series, Battlestar Galactica) takes place in the midst of the First Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly finds himself at odds with his co-pilot, the battle-weary officer Coker (Ben Cotton). With only 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine escort mission with an enigmatic passenger (Lili Bordan) turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.

Glad they are playing this. I was interested, but had no desire or patience to watch it online. Got it set up to record.

I watched this online. I'm not saying it was great on all levels, but I don't think it deserved such a harsh review from this web site. It was fun re-visiting the BSG world, and had SyFy picked this up as a series it could have improved over time just as the BSG series did.

No shit.

Guess they have more sharktopus movies to show, not to mention terrible game/reality shows.

I reviewed the Blu-ray yesterday for another site (review not live yet...probably tomorrow). I gave it a recommendation...I thought it was pretty good...way better than anything we saw on 'Caprica.'

Only 10 minutes in and all I see is lens flare. I don't knowif I'm going to be able to finish, it looks horrible.

Really liked the first 1/2 hour, but it got pretty slow once they landed on the planet.

yeah I only watched one episode at a time online so the flares didn't seem that bad before.

It was OK, decent cast and story.

AH, Caprica, what can I say.... some great ideas, some dumb ideas. I miss BSG.

SG-1, SGA, and BSG all in one night, those were the good old days on SciFi.

Was I the only one who hoped all the characters were killed during the course of the movie?? None of the main characters were likable in any way, shape or form. Perhaps this is why even SyFy passed on this??

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome -- 2 Hour Movie -- 2/10/13

I thought this movie was just so-so. I don't think this really set up a potential series well.

Didn't really like the actor they cast as young Adama. Didn't like the actor who played his buddy. I kind of see why SyFy passed on this. As said in this thread, none of the actors were really charismatic or likeable.

Was it just me, but did anyone think SyFy went cheap on this Pilot? Alot of the scenes looked horrendous, especially in HD. Some scenes looked blatantly like they were shot in front of a green screen. I wasn't really impressed with the special effects either.

I had an issue with some of the casting. Did they not think people would notice this?

Brian Markinson was playing Adama's commander. He was also in Caprica as Agent Jordan Duram.

http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/Jordan_Duram

Also, John Pyper-Fergusn played Xander Toth in this Pilot. He was also in Caprica as Tomas Vergis, as one of the main villains.

I get that networks, shows tend to recycle actors, but I wasn't too fond with using the same actors who played different characters in the same universe as BSG.

I agree. The flares were driving me crazy. They really didn't need to be there. Poor choice by the director.

This movie was missing alot of the magic from Ron Moore's writing to Michael Rymer's directing.

Yeah, some of the space stuff looked good, but there was a lot to be desired. The monster/snake wrestling sequence had some real SyFy moments, so maybe they didn't go cheap and just think that looks good.

It was a web series first, and almost everything was with virtual sets at a low budget. This is not a big production pilot.

Incorrect, it was shot as a 2 hour pilot for a potential SyFy series. It's been in the can for almost 2 years now. SyFy decided to break up the Pilot into a 10 part web series before it premiered as a whole movie.

I'm assuming the lens flares are present to make it less apparant that virtually 80 percent of the backgrounds around the actors (if not more) are digitally created. I did mention in my HDD review that the movie has so many lens flares that the producers should be hearing from JJ Abrams' lawyers any minute.

ALL the scenes WERE shot in front of a green screen. There were no sets...they were all broken down and/or auctioned off, so the vast majority of what you see is digitally re-created.

Nope, it basically was announced originally as a 10 part web series, then was later "upgraded" to be a 2-hour pilot, and then sat on the shelf for 2 years until they decided to release it back as they originally planned as a web series first, with the 2-hour version aired afterward on SyFy.

Re: Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome -- 2 Hour Movie -- 2/10/13

the cylons looked like something that would have shown up between the end of the war and the second war, like a cross between the original and nBSG ones
for this they should have looked like the nBSG and Caprica version of the original series cylons
something like this, from the razor flashback

and they left her alive even though they know she's a spy. fracking idiots
