Hello Everyone.
I just purchased a new Digital Receiver (pioneer) which has both the Coax and Optical Digital Inputs. My DVD player also has both types of outputs.
Which do you all recommend I use? What brand/type of cable should I purchase? Does the differing brands matter?
Thanks so much!

I use digital Coax for my SOny receiver and Toshiba 5109 dvd player.
Either should be fine, but I think I read somewhere that the Coax had a slight edge.
I use the optical for my Playstation 2.

Both Coax and Optical give otu the same quality. I recommend Coax because:
1) Much cheaper, just get a Video Cable!
2) Works if bent every which way, and does not break easily.
3) Easy to find in stores.
Reasons I Do Not recommend optical:
1) Expensive! Minumum $12.99 for 1 meter of receton Optical cable
2) If bent too much, it snaps, and you've just screwed up a $12 cable!
3) Only found in Electronics stores.

I can use just a regular RC Video Cable just in the Coax Output to Input slot?
Or do I need to purchase a specific Digital Coax Cable.
Thanks again!

Another reason to use the coax is that most equipment, especially the low-end stuff, uses optical, so keep that input "open" for later use and use the coax for the DVD player.

My Onkyo also has both Optical and Coaxial inputs. I tried using both Optical and Coaxial and found very, very slight differences between the two. The Optical cable sound seemed to be brighter and clearer, while the Coaxial cable seemed to be able to reproduce the bass frequencies better. But like I said, the differences were so minimal, you could use either or. I use the Coaxial for my DVD player because it is less fragile than the Optical cable. My Optical cable is used for my CD changer.
