How much amp power?
Too much, is never enough (think about it)
If your amp produces CLEAN power then you can send a higher watt to the speaker than was originally intended. You can go until it starts to sound funny.

Thanks for the replies. So there are really no hard and fast rules as to how much excess wattage you can run beyond the stated maximum power input to the speakers. Wont the excess amp power damage the speakers?

There are no rules. Only generalizations.
And you've already heard the best one:
Except in extreme cases, having more power than your speakers are rated for is not a bad thing.
Most damage to speakers is done when an amp is underpowered and sends a clipped (squared off and maxed out) signal to a speaker.
