Who would have thought Todd Bridges would be the sole survivor? He was easily on track to be the first to go.

RIP Mr. Drummond.

Conrad Bain actually made an appearance on the CBS show "Unforgettable" last year. It may have been his last acting gig.

Mary Ann Mobley, who played Mrs Drummond during the show's last season, is still alive. And Bain played Dr. Harmon, the next-door neighbor on Maude, for all six seasons.

I think I have this right from back when I was reading up on him, but I think he was widely regarded as a really good guy. I just did a quick search and see Todd Bridges said he treated him better than Bridges own dad.

Let's not forget his role in the Tresch administration:

Man -- with talent like that, how did that show get cancelled so quickly?

The other housekeeper Adelaide is gone. Of course, she was a million years old.

Yeah, I figured as much... she looked very old when the show aired - and she was the 2nd housekeepr on the series. I can't even remember her name.

As for Conrad Bain, he's actually Canadian and has a identical twin brother who appeared on an episode of SCTV:

"He was a really good man," Bridges says. "He really was like Mr. Drummond. Just an all-around nice guy. He treated me better than my own father treated me."

The ensuing years brought plenty of turmoil for the show's young stars, including Bridges' much-publicized addiction to crack cocaine in his 20s and an arrest for the murder of a drug dealer, for which he was later acquitted. Through it all, Bridges says, Bain was there to offer a sympathetic ear and his advice.

Eventually, Bridges got clean and had a family of his own, beginning with son Spencir Bridges -- at 15, now a busy working actor who has appeared on episodes of "House M.D." and "iCarly" and in the 2003 Eddie Murphy film "Daddy Day Care."

"When I had my son, I took him to Conrad's house and he loved him, played chess with him, called him his grandson," Bridges says. "He just really knew how to take care of people."

"I cried all day. I can’t even cry anymore. I'll truly miss that man," he adds.

Re: RIP Conrad Bain

Both Conrad Bain and Charlotte Rae appeared in Woody Allen's 1971 classic BANANAS, in separate scenes. Bain is unmistakable in his scene (the office desk workout), whereas Rae is hidden behind a surgical mask (playing Allen's mother).

Anyway, I grew up watching Diff'rent Strokes every week, as a kid it was probably my favorite show. I still have a soft spot for it, and thought Bain had some pretty sharp comic timing. Apparently an all-around decent fellow too. RIP.

This caught my eye from the TMZ article:

He also has a surviving twin brother Bonar Bain.

Oh yes, I forgot about him! But now that you brought it up I remember him for playing Conrad's evil twin 'Hank Bain' on an episode of SCTV. I remember being confused because I assumed with it being SCTV and all that it was really Conrad pretending to be his own twin. But he didn't look quite right, which of course was because he wasn't Conrad after all.

Bonar also appeared on an episode of Maude, ("Vivian's Surprise") playing Dr. Harmon's twin brother, Arnold, who escaped from a mental institution and spent the episode impersonating Arthur. Conrad Bain actually played both roles until the end of the episode when the two of them appeared together.

Antenna TV is airing a tribute to Bain, today (Saturday, January 19) from 1-8pm ET. Six episodes of Maude, followed by eight episodes of Diff'rent Strokes. The twin brother episode is not among them.
