I laughed when Raylan (or was it Art?) threatened to stop their disability checks and suddenly everybody became more cooperative.

Is this show not well watched at DVDTalk? The Deception thread has as many comments and I don't know what that is.
+1, I have no idea where the coke and MMA ex husband storylines are going but I have an inkling on where the preacher storyline is going.

I loved Boyd squaring off the with the preacher as a former preacher.

Loved Duffy popping his own guy. Boyd's look was like "WTF??"
I loved the whole scene with the Truth family. Tons of good lines.

I don't mind the preacher story at all, it makes sense in the context of Harlan County - ripe for "redemption". Even if it appears as an obvious scam at this point, so what? Boyd's perfectly positioned to have amazing dialog as in this episode all season long, so I'm in.
Plus the brother & sister leading a flock of lost sheep reminds me a lot of Carnivale and I'll never complain about that.

The scenes before the first break were all done very artfully. It drew the parallels between Raylan and girl and Boyd and girl nicely and also brought Art in with a third alcohol delivery.
The description of Tim, Rachel, and Raylan by Art was also fantastic.
I have to say the episode felt just slightly lacking compared to last week.
The preacher isn't charismatic at all if you ask me. It looks like poor casting, which may be the first time I have ever accused this show of being anything other than spot on in that department. The scenes are written well, but I just don't buy that guy could convert a six pack out of its plastic rings.

I loved the look on Ryland's face at the very end where the guy says "I need to talk to my wife". First his face says WTF, then he looks at her with a look that says "are you fucking kidding me?". Priceless.

Did Duffy grow a gigantic pair of balls since last season? Typically he is the weasel hiding behind the boss... now he's the boss?

Yeah, but in hindsight, it was probably a good move on Raylan's part that he didn't start a fight with him, as evidenced later in the episode, that dude would've dismantled him.

Which is why I absolutely loved his response to Mr. MMA... along the lines of:
MMA: "You wanna find out if you can get me out that door?"
Raylan: "not really"
It's characteristics like that that make me love this show. Most writers would have him be a total hardass and break the guys arm in two moves. Raylan basically acknowledges that he doesn't want to fight and never uses his authority to act like a tough guy.

Since I brought up the symmetry between Boyd/Ava/bar and Raylan/Lindsey/bar, I should also mention that it's interesting they're giving Boyd a foil in the preacher who seems designed to challenge Boyd at his strength (charisma) and now they're giving Raylan a foil with the same type of thing going on -- Raylan is the badass in the room except as noted he's not great in a fist fight type situation and this new guy is a badass. I'm digging the way this season seems to be specifically set up to contrast/compare Raylan and Boyd's journeys.
