Microsoft Introduces IllumiRoom "Makes Your Room The Screen"

<iframe src="http://widgets.ign.com/video/embed/content.html?url=http://www.ign.com/videos/2013/01/09/microsoft-illumiroom-ces-2013-proof-of-concept" width="468" height="263" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

This was mentioned in the Xbox360 thread, but no one reads that and this is worth its own thread.

Pretty fucking cool if you ask me. If it's reasonably priced I'd buy it.

Re: Microsoft Introduces IllumiRoom "Makes Your Room The Screen"

My understanding from this article is that it's not something we'll be seeing on the market anytime soon, if ever. It's "a proof-of-concept system" designed to show off the capabilities of the technology at a fancy conference.

the president of Sony just said in an interview they may reveal the PS4 in May, so they don't have to compete with the Xbox announcement at E3.

not saying this will or won't be be Xbox tech, but E3 isn't the end all of places to announce stuff.

Can we first have a Kinect that functions correctly in something beyond Happy Action Theater/ Kinect Party before we try to get all fancy in the living room?

I'm guessing you didn't notice the glasses-less 3D

Not to mention one that functions perfectly in a room with anything less than say 500 watts of lighting it seems.

That really just looked like random shit projected around the walls rather than glasses-less 3D.

Yeah, nothing 3D about that, just an extension of the image past the end of the screen. Cool technology, but ultimately pretty useless.

Re: Microsoft Introduces IllumiRoom "Makes Your Room The Screen"

I dunno about useless. This would give you a much larger field of vision in shooters. That could be handy.

However, as someone with a projector this is useless to me.
