Pretty fucking cool if you ask me. If it's reasonably priced I'd buy it.

My understanding from this article is that it's not something we'll be seeing on the market anytime soon, if ever. It's "a proof-of-concept system" designed to show off the capabilities of the technology at a fancy conference.

Can we first have a Kinect that functions correctly in something beyond Happy Action Theater/ Kinect Party before we try to get all fancy in the living room?

Yeah, nothing 3D about that, just an extension of the image past the end of the screen. Cool technology, but ultimately pretty useless.

I dunno about useless. This would give you a much larger field of vision in shooters. That could be handy.
However, as someone with a projector this is useless to me.
