Blue Jasmine (2013, Woody Allen) S: Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins

Barker & Bernard Get Their Annual Woody: SPC Locks Woody Allen’s ‘Blue Jasmine’
BREAKING: This hardly qualifies as a cliffhanger, but Sony Pictures Classics has formalized a deal for North American rights to Blue Jasmine, the next film written and directed by Woody Allen. SPC partners Michael Barker and Tom Bernard make this their sixth picture and fourth in a row with The Woodman. That includes From Rome With Love and Midnight In Paris, the latest in Allen’s picture postcard tour of the most beautiful cities in the world.

Blue Jasmine, for which Allen returned to his old Gotham haunt to shoot, stars Alec Baldwin, Cate Blanchett, Bobby Cannavale, Louis C.K., Andrew Dice Clay, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Michael Stuhlbarg. It is the story of the final stages of an acute crisis and a life of a fashionable New York housewife. The film is produced by Letty Aronson, Stephen Tenenbaum and Edward Walson, and the deal was made by Gravier Productions.

Barker & Bernard could once again find themselves in the Oscar mix when nominations are announced Thursday. While Allen’s From Rome With Love is a silly comedy that has not been in the conversation, the Michael Haneke-directed Amour certainly has built momentum and Marion Cotillard figures to be in the mix for Rust and Bone. They’ve also got Searching For Sugar Man and The Gatekeepers on the documentary short list.

Re: Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine

Sounds good, I still like Woody. Obviously with the prodigious output he has there are going to be sme misses, but compared to a lot of the dross that gets made I'd go for a Woody any day.

How Andrew Dice Clay came into Woody's radar baffles the mind.

The first and last Allen film I saw in theaters was Midnight in Paris. I don't think I'll ever be so enjoyed by a film of his again. That one just hit all the marks for me.

this looks like it's going to be another winner for Woody Allen.

I love how he cast Andrew Dice Clay and Louis CK in this too.

Deadline has an article suggesting the breakout star from the movie is... Andrew Dice Clay

EXCLUSIVE: Hot off an acclaimed performance in Woody Allen’s new film Blue Jasmine, Andrew Dice Clay has signed with Resolution. The agency will try to help him capitalize on a surprise breakout performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, which had the biggest opening per screen average in Allen’s career. While Clay stars opposite strong thesps Cate Blanchett, Alec Baldwin, Sally Hawkins, Peter Sarsgaard and Bobby Cannavale, critics have been singling him out for praise for his performance as a working stiff ruined by a white collar crook. Clay showed acting promise early on in his stint on Michael Mann’s Crime Story TV series opposite the late Dennis Farina, but all that got overshadowed when his standup act began selling out stadiums. Clay most recently played himself in a story arc in the final season of HBO’s Entourage. It was that work that inspired Allen to cast him in Blue Jasmine. Clay is managed by Bruce Rubenstein.
So his work from Entourage got him this job, this job got him back in an agency.

Re: Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine

ADC is great in the film. If Blanchett weren't busy giving a career best performance, he would have stolen the show.

As for the movie itself, it didn't blow me away. It could have been an interesting character study, but Jasmine ultimately shows no growth. It's definitely worth seeing for Blanchett and Andrew Dice Clay, but it's a trifle of a film.

I agree that ADC was very good in the movie. His last scene was awesome.

Re: Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine

I'd be shocked if Cate Blanchett didn't get an Academy Nomination for this. Honestly it might even shock me if she didn't win. A supporting nom for Dice isn't out of the question either. He was fantastic. Actually all the acting was great across the board.

Woody's batting average hasn't been too bad lately. It wasn't as good as Midnight In Paris for me. But it was definitely right up there with Match Point and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

Yeah, I hear nothing but greatness on this one. So much so that I may even have to go peep it out at the show.

Re: Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine

Cate Blanchett will most certainly be a nominee for best actress.
Sony Pictures Classics doesn't do a very good job of award campaigning, however, so I doubt she'll win - even though she gave the best performance of the year so far.

Jesus H Christ, how did I miss this.

I refuse to believe that someone that works for Woody showed him clips of Dice. Nope, Woody Allen watches Entourage. This is now a fact.

Re: Woody Allen's Blue Jasmine

As much as I had been looking forward to seeing this, I am now experiencing serious doubts. I often find it difficult to enjoy films where there aren't really any characters to root for, and the reviews of this make it sound like it is just that kind of film.

I didn't comment earlier but I really liked this. It reminded me a bit of Young Adult, and is one of my favorites of the year so far. Like others said, Dice is great and of course Blanchett is as well.
