Remember back when parodies and spoofs were cool? The Zuckers, Pat Proft, Jim Abrahams, then Ben Stiller were really good. The Wayans were funny, but I think they started that slippery slope into these movies sucking.

Sometimes, I think I'm just not in touch with what's good right now. But I don't think that's the case here. The new parodies and spoofs are really horrible. I'm bothered that they even get distribution.

The older parodies still came up with their own original funny jokes even though they were parodying a certain genre of movie. The newer parodies just fucking xerox whole scenes from other movies and add something like, I don't know, having them wear mustaches when the actors in the original movie didn't. Also, any reference to any big pop culture event from the last year must be shoved in there as well. It doesn't matter if it fits into the story organically, just shove an actor doing Gangnam Style in the middle there.

I think the thing that bugged me most about the newer "parody" movies, is that a bulk of what they used were scenes from comedy movies.

How are you supposed to make fun of something that is already funny?

And even if they manage to make fun of something already funny, why should I laugh at that instead of the original funny bit?

I don't even get the movie title. What's a "celebrity movie"? Is that a genre? What would be an example of a "celebrity movie" that this is "another" one of?

I suppose they mean films with quite the ensemble cast of celebrites, like Ocean's Eleven, which is obviously the "main" film parodied, judging by the trailer.

Aside from Ocean's Eleven, what was the last celebrity-packed movie? There was Cannonball Run and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World, but those were years ago. It's not exactly a genre that's overplayed.

Even those films, the celebrities are still playing characters, not themselves (typically). This appears to be playing off the celebrities' real-life personas, which isn't a real genre. Maybe Being John Malkovich?
