Re: Billboard's Top 100 Songs of 2012

I bought 94 albums released this year and only own 4 albums with songs on that list, one of which came out last year and is the only one of the four that I actually cared for. Having not listened to the radio at all for some years, I find it amusing to see performers like Maroon 5, Train and Usher as having multiple songs on the list. What demographic drives radio popularity these days?

you'd be shocked at how popular Maroon 5 and Train (and Nickelback, Daughtry, 3 Doors Down, etc...) are with 35-45 year old housewives who think that they are still "with it" and hip for liking them. Basically they have become this generations' equivalent of Michael Bolton and Kenny G

Hmph. Vulgarians whose moaning, broken-rhythmed music debases its listeners and encourages the worst kind of debauchery: dancing.

I will be listening to Mozart, Brahms, Hadyn and Bach, thank you.

That list is made solely for the sheeple.

Typical.

Re: Billboard's Top 100 Songs of 2012

I've heard of the majority of the artists in the top 50, even if I've never heard the songs. But it once took a monster act like the Bee Gees or Fleetwood Mac to get multiple top-20 hits in a single year. Now it looks like there are only eight or so acts IN the top 20.

Not one rock song on that list (not sure I count Coldplay and Linkin Park as rock).

Re: Billboard's Top 100 Songs of 2012

I have young daughters and have therefore heard most of these songs. Actually, I'd say that the top ten is better than most year's top tens. Some catchy songs in there.

Also, I can attest to the fact that rock is deader than disco for kids these days. It's going to come back, though.

How am I supposed to take these artists seriously as musicians with those monikers? I'd be much more inclined to sample them if they presented themselves as gill.es.pie, Col-Train, and Davi$.

I love people who still think they're musically adventurous for liking that Gotye song.

I'm pretty sure I've only heard the last two Adele songs, and the Party Rock Anthem song.
