CW to make Wonder Woman tv series? (Amazon)

http://insidetv.ew.com/2012/11/29/cw-wonder-woman/
They are just working on casting but this actually could happen.

Hope they can make it good like Arrow and it could be a hit.

The CW’s Wonder Woman prequel project is taking another step toward becoming a possible series.

Studio Warner Bros. has hired a casting director for the project and is preparing to send out a casting notice for the starring role. As previously announced, the project is titled Amazon and it “looks at the teenage years of the heroine who will become Wonder Woman.”

Normally casting doesn’t happen until after a project has received at least a pilot order — and Amazon, to be clear, does not. But a project like this so hinges on the lead role, perhaps the network and studio want to see some potential actors before deciding whether to pull the trigger (or they’re so confident it will receive a pilot order, they want to get a jump start on the casting process vs. competing pilot season projects).

Given the success of Arrow this fall, The CW must be tempted to add another DC Comics character to the lineup as a potential companion series. Just remember, however, we’ve been down this road before. Previously, NBC developed a Wonder Woman series last year starring Adrianne Palicki, but despite some photos that made us TV bloggers very happy, the project never made it past the pilot stage.

What do you think? Who should be cast as Wonder Woman — this time?

UPDATE: Looks like Deadline obtained the official casting breakdown, which has more details. The character’s name is Iris (5’8″ or above) and she comes from a secluded country where she was raised as a solider in a brutal environment. Now a stranger in a strange modern big city, she’s “a fierce warrior with the innocent heart of a romantic * and she will fight to the death to make the world safe.”

DC needs to not waste its big guns on a TV show.

Before anyone freaks out about the name Iris -

http://io9.com/5964611/relax-cw-isnt...uffer-no-fools

According to Deadline, this is the top-secret casting call for the lead in the new Wonder Woman drama. And as you can see the main character's name in this casting call is named Iris. But it was merely a ruse (or at least that's what The CW wants you to think), as Wonder Woman script writer Allan Heinberg took to twitter proclaiming, "Merciful Minerva! So much for using code names to avoid internet speculation. " Which we're assuming means, relax, she's still Diana.
The Deadline source mentions this now too.

They can do both. As great as the Marvel movies since Iron Man have been, I hate waiting years for them to come out. If DC/CW can produce shows that are as good as "Arrow", I'd like to see more of them.

Re: CW to make Wonder Woman tv series? (Amazon)

She may rise again. The Wonder Woman origin drama Amazon is in active redevelopment at the CW. The project was originally written by Allan Heinberg last season. Despite doing some preliminary casting on the lead while the script was still being written, the network ultimately didn’t give it a pilot order, instead rolling it to off-season. A new writer, Heroes alum Aron Eli Coleite, was brought in. Now “we’re waiting for the script to come in,” CW president Mark Pedowitz said following the network’s upfront presentation today. “We do not want to produce something that doesn’t work for that character. It is the trickiest of DC characters to get done.” If the network likes the script, the project will be ordered as an off-cycle pilot. As for The Selection, it is “unlikely” the property will be re-visited again after two failed pilots, the second of which came close to a series pickup, CW brass said.

The problem is you need perfect casting and someone with the right acumen to determine the correct costume on television, for Wonder Woman to work. The chance they get another Lynda Carter to fill the role is about nil.

I agree, Cyborg or Captain Marvel would be better next for tv, especially CW.

Both those characters would be too expensive on a weekly network show, due to the FX and CGI needed for their powers. There is a reason why Smallville dumped Superman's flying power from the beginning.

What exactly are Wonder Woman's powers? They seem to vary between shows. In Justice League, she was pretty much Superman's strength & could fly. Older shows just have her running around, flying invisible jets, stronger then most people but not Superman levels, & good with ropes.

I think she's too closely associated with Lois Lane now.

Plus she's starring in the 2nd season of Saving Hope, which is only airing in Canada now.

The description doesn't make any sense...she's a teenager but in a modern city? Shouldn't they keep the character on Paradise Island? There's a lot of story ideas from the original comic book that they can actually incorporate into it without really changing anything. They can also get away from using the costume if it's a big hang up. She can wear togas all day long.

Kind of disappointed Heinberg is off the project, I started reading Wonder Woman in the first place because of him (I loved Young Avengers).

The current Wonder Woman in the comics is more powerful than Superman. The trend in modern comics has been to overpower every character except Superman, so they have actually made her stronger and a better fighter than Superman. It's all Batman's fault, the most overpowered character in existence given his background.

Didn't that chic from Friday Night Lights get the role but then the show was aborted?

^^ Yes, WB shot a Pilot for NBC that was written by David E. Kelley. It leaked online and was apparently pretty bad. NBC passed on it.

The Erica Durance picture for those who wonder where it came from was taken from an episode of Harry's Law last season. She was playing a character who pretended to be Wonder Woman.

Wonder if they will do like Arrow does and have flashbacks to her time on the island.

Re: CW to make Wonder Woman tv series? (Amazon)

The CW no longer is developing the Wonder Woman prequel Amazon -- at least not right now.

Amazon was poised to explore the origin story of Wonder Woman's alter ego Diana of Themyscira. The network announced in September 2012 that it was teaming with Grey's Anatomy's Allan Heinberg to develop the story. The script was redeveloped in May, with Heroes writer Aron Eli Coleite taking a new stab at the story, and the network was poised to take the project to pilot for a potential off-cycle pickup. But that no longer will happen.

"We did not go forward with it," CW president Mark Pedowitz told The Hollywood Reporter following his Wednesday session at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour.

While Amazon will not move forward, Pedowitz was open to taking a second stab at the iconic Wonder Woman character if the right material were to come along.

"It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow, and we're being very careful with Flash," Pedowitz said of the Stephen Amell series and Grant Gustin Flash pilot in the works at the network. "These are iconic characters, so we're going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit."

Meanwhile, the network is developing DC's Hourman and iZombie with Rob Thomas (Veronica Mars) as it looks to expand its superhero roster. Beyond the youth-skewing network, Fox is prepping Gotham, a Batman prequel focused on Commissioner Gordon; NBC ordered Constantine to pilot; and ABC has found modest success with Marvel's Agents of SHIELD.

Are they waiting for the reaction to her being in the new Superman/Batman movie before doing something with her then?

The Superman/Batman movie sounds pretty lame to be honest. I get a serious flop vibe from that film.

Would have loved to have seen Alexandria Daddario in this TV show as Diana.
