Upstream Color -- Dir: Shane Carruth (director of Primer)

Poster:
Filming is done and it's playing at Sundance 2013.
"A man and woman are drawn together, entangled in the life cycle of an ageless organism. Identity becomes an illusion as they struggle to assemble the loose fragments of wrecked lives."
Sounds... weird.
But Primer was fantastic, so I'll absolutely go see this if it plays here.

Primer was certainly interesting, but I feel like the concept was better than the execution.
That being said, I'll see this, because anyone who thinks like Carruth does deserves my attention.

Sounds like he fancies himself as Terrence Malick.

Carruth was only listed as writer on A Topiary which is still set for a 2013 production start.

I re-watched about half of Primer last night. IMO, it still holds up quite well.
That being said, I'll see this, because anyone who thinks like Carruth does deserves my attention.

Re: Upstream Color -- Dir: Shane Carruth (director of Primer)
It more or less makes sense - Pollock and Renoir are two very different painters with radically different styles, just like Tarantino and Malick are two very different directors with radically different styles. Also, Malick has yet to make a boring film - they don't all completely succeed, but they're never boring.
Which is all beside the point that Primer is an excellent film with a GREAT concept that marked Carruth as someone to watch. I'm glad to see that he was able to get his next film off the ground. As a local, I registered to buy Sundance tickets a month or two ago - I wonder if there's any chance I'll be able to get tix to this one.

No... I think It's pretty apt. and don't get me wrong, I like Tarantino just as I like Malick. Two completely different approaches to film making but both make enjoyable, well done films.

Regardless of how good this film turns out to be, one great thing about it could be that it prompts a re-release of Primer on video (DVD and Blu-ray). The current DVD is OOP.
You can buy Primer on iTunes, or his website has a DRM-free copy in 720p available for $15:
