Re: Wii Mini Console - $100 - 12/07/12 (Canada Exclusive)
I could see this selling well for families that just want a wii sports type machine with a few mario and mario kart games. But since the Wii is already small and already cheap I'm not sure the difference in price makes up for the difference in features and price. They must have studies on the amount of people that actually use the internet on the wii, but I thought it was pretty popular as a netflix machine even if it was never used to download games. But it would seem the only reason to cut out some of the features was feature differentiation, because adding an ethernet port must cost next to nothing at this point. The removal of wifi and gamecube support make some sense as a cost saving measure.

When I bought my Wii over the summer, they were $79 used at GS. Why would anyone buy this for full price?

Re: Wii Mini Console - $100 - 12/07/12 (Canada Exclusive)
I noticed at my local Targets that they have cleared out the Wii demo units and have zero Wii's in stock. I'm guessing Nintendo has pretty much stopped making NEW stock Wii's. I'm wondering if the Wii's we do see on shelves now are just store stock and once they are gone that is it.
My guess is that they sell through whatever stock of the regular Wii while they test this in Canada. After the holidays these will be on the shelf as the $99.99 entry machine. You'll see the new hotness Wii U for $249.99/$299.99 and then here's our $99.99 Wii Mini that will play the entire Wii catalog of games.
Sony was still selling the PS2 Slim/Mini for $99.99 long into the life span of the PS3 and those bitches still sold really well.

But were those PS2 Slims gimped as badly as this Wii Mini?
Either way, a lot of people wont care. I think this is fine if aimed directly at younger gamers, just not while the normal Wii is still being sold.

This seems dumb. Especially When I feel like you can get a Wii for dirt-cheap. I'd really like to be able to find a used one that plays gamecube games. I'd really like to give Windwaker a whirl.

The only thing I use my Wii for these days is VC games (which you need an internet connection to get), and Gamecube games. This thing is a fail.
IIRC, the only thing you couldn't do with a PS2 slim that you could with a big PS2 was plug in the hard drive required for Final Fantasy online.

I had two Wii's at separate times, but neither of them lasted very long..got bored very fast, even with the VC stuff. Luckily it had been when they were still very sought after, so I recouped my money. Without an online connection, this thing is dead in the water.

This must have sold well in Canada. It's expanding to the UK on March 22.
26th February 2013 – After nearly 100 million Wii consoles sold worldwide, the new look Wii mini launches across the UK on March 22nd. Wii mini is smaller than the original Wii, and comes in matte black with a red border. Included with the console are a red Wii Remote Plus and a red Nunchuk controller, with Wii mini also being compatible with most existing Wii accessories. Wii mini offers no Internet capabilities, with the focus squarely on games.
To coincide with the launch of Wii mini, Nintendo is also expanding the existing range of Nintendo Selects games, making available classic games such Mario Party 8, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Power Tennis and Super Paper Mario as part of the roster.
As the perfect way for you to play some classic Wii games in 2013, check out more information about this console at our official Wii mini page.

Why do they call that "the perfect way" to play Wii games in 2013? I would have thought the perfect way was to spend $300 or more on the Wii U.
Regarding no internet, is that a big deal (aside from games with online play and download-only games, of course)? I realize the games didn't have patches, but what about the OS? Has it been patched for the last time, and that version is on this system?
