Modern Family -- Season Premiere -- "Bringing Up Baby" -- 9/26/12

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
In the Season 4 premiere, "Bringing Up Baby," Jay's birthday is upon us again and, as before, he makes it well-known that he wishes to keep it as low key as possible, with no grand gestures or surprises. But leave it to the family to miss the mark yet again! Phil takes Jay on a very unconventional fishing trip with his buddies, and Gloria struggles with how to break the pregnancy news to him. Meanwhile, Dylan moves into the Dunphy household temporarily, and Mitch and Cam decide to look into adopting a cat as they continue to cope with their failed attempt to adopt another child.

The stuffed animals on top of the car had me in stitches.

...and on an unrelated note, holy shit is the new show on afterwards beyond awful. Its so bad I'd assume NBC greenlit it.

It's great to have this show back. I had a lot of fun with this episode. And It was sweet when Jay was happy to be a father again.

I only saw a few minutes of the show after before I quit. I only saw up until the "Yesterday" title card.

Looks like they're not stretching out the pregnancy, jumping 5-6 months in one hug.

Hey, that's pretty close to what I wished for back in May: http://forum.dvdtalk.com/11245786-post27.html

If they strung out the pregnancy over the whole season, the other kids would have grown too fast in relation to the pregnancy.

As a parent who's children have received gigantic stuffed animals, I can relate to Mitch and Cam. Not everyone lives in the mansion from The Toy.

Really liked the premiere. I laughed out loud several times, along with some nice heart as well. Glad to have it back!

it was a decent episode, but for a season opener it was somehow lacking ...

Re: Modern Family -- Season Premiere -- "Bringing Up Baby" -- 9/26/12

I find it interesting that they updated the credits to show the new Lily, but not the other two families. In the credits, Ariel Winter is about 4 inches shorters than Sarah Hyland, but now they're about the same height.

I wish Dylan would go away. I don't like how the actor is saying his lines. It's like he has to think about each word before he can say it. Hayley needs to hook up with someone smart.

Julie Bowen as a brunette very briefly looked good, but I think she looks best as a blonde.

The animals on top of the car gag was pretty good. I wish they would have had the animals sitting next to each other and have one fall into the lap of the other as the car drove away.

That is totally the character of Dylan though - I think that guy kills it. Yes the character is annoying because he is so stupid, but often hilariously so... plus the love Phil has for him will never stop being funny.

I like Dylan too but have to agree that they can open up a whole new story arc for Haley if she just dates someone else. She can hook up with a nice, smart guy and Claire can love him while Phil hates him. It's a simple twist but all the Claire hating Dylan/Phil loving Dylan stuff is getting a bit played out.

I agree...and I know why: Not enough Luke! That kid is comedy gold.

Like many here though, the stuffed animal joke had me in stiches.

Good opener.

Phil should keep the beard. It makes him seem slightly less douchey.

Bowen as a brunette - still a total MILF.

Gloria has wonderful, wonderful tits.

Nice cameos from Chazz and Ernie, although Ernie had practically nothing to do.

I think there is another compelling reason to cut Dylan loose sooner rather than later -- eventually the show is going to need to go to Alex is attracted to dumb guy well (hopefully only briefly, like maybe a couple eps). That will play best if Dylan is a rather distant memory.

I'm hoping for a "very special episode" this season, dealing with the death of Lily.
