Not much, really, but I recently discovered and like Gerard McMahon:

May I also recommend his follow up album, Foreign Papers from 1986. (Notice the different spelling of McMann)
These days he goes by G Tom Mac. I quite liked this album he did in 2007, too.

Re: What are you listening to? — Fall 2012
Have you heard his '86 album, Foreign Papers, and is it any good? I've only heard his other two, one with a band called Kid Lightning and the other the one whose cover is seen above, which I preferred. Some good stuff on there. He should've been bigger.
What prompted me to look into him was a recent discussion in Movie Talk, where I recalled how marvellous his song over the closing credits of No Way Home was:

Edit: Disregard part of my reply. I didn't see your edited answer.

G Tom Mac. Yeah, pretty asinine moniker. None of his early albums is on CD, so I was forced to find other avenues.

He's actually done a lot of soundtrack work over the years, even if most of it is hard to come by. His most well known song from a soundtrack is most likely "Cry Little Sister" form the 1987 movie The Lost Boys.
He's also written many songs for other artists, including one of my favorites on KISS' Unmasked album - "Is That You?"
Here's him telling the story about it...

Aha, thanks. Yes, I knew about the track from the Lost Boys soundtrack, which, sadly, is probably his most well-known song, period. I don't fancy it all that much, nor the movie.

Re: What are you listening to? — Fall 2012
As far as music from 2012..........meh. I guess the "best" thing out there are the songs by Fun?
Certainly better than "Gangnam Style." - LOL
I mean, what do you guys (who were born around 1970) think is good "new" music today? (And this HAS to exclude old artists putting out new music, like Rolling Stones or Bob Dylan! What contemporary artists, based on the music style you grew up enjoying, are worth seeking out?)

Re: What are you listening to? — Fall 2012
Recent Rdio history:
Neil Young: After the Gold Rush - listened mainly to the title track, which is in my top ten songs ever list.
Paul Oakenfold: Four Seasons - listened for about ten minutes to this massive collection and then remembered that all trance sounds kind of the same to me and got bored.
Jane's Addiction: Up from the Catacombs - had a brief burst of nostalgia and listened to "Stop" and "Ocean Size", both of which sound pretty dated to be frank. Still love the "dirty LA bungalow/surfer/goth/heroin" vibe of JA. Also, it reminds me of an old girlfriend, which is always fun.
...And you will know us by the trail of dead: Lost Songs - listened to this a lot recently, it's starting to sound a bit more U2 to me at points, not sure this is going to stand the test of time...
Black Breath: Sentenced to Life - decided they are more metal-flavored punk rather than punk-flavored metal. Can't get enough of this album, it kicks ass.
No Trigger: Tycoon - needed a short poppunk fix.
Terry Callier: What Color is Love - they talked about it on Sound Opinions and I'd never heard the guy. Awesome album, sort of a mix of Astral Weeks, Serge Gainsborough and Love.
Roxy Music: For Your Pleasure - mainly for "Beauty Queen". I've played this album maybe too many times at this point, getting a little sick of it. Bryan Ferry's "jaded European lothario" schtick is timelessly awesome, though
Sinead O'Connor: I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got - mainly for "Three Babies" which I love. then I listened to the whole album. Holds up brilliantly.
The Police: Synchronicity - another burst of nostalgia. Surely "Mother" and "Ms Gradenko" are jokes? Decided "Synchronicity 1" is the greatest Police song ever while "Synchronicity 2" kinda sucks. Side 2 is pure genius. Still like "Ghost in the Machine" best.
Vitalic: Stamina - boring, basic single from a formerly promising producer. Haven't found a good electronic release in a while now...
The Chariot: One Wing - unhinged instant classic or complete mess, I can't decide
Photek: KU:PALM - pretty good album by a scene veteren. Can't say I remember too much about it at this point...

Hard to believe it's been two years since this release and there hasn't been an album since.
