Favorite 80's Horror film?

Choose your favorite. Same rules apply, some of these films might lean more towards suspense or SF. Please specify if you list "other". Have at it.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

I had to go with Day of the Dead from that list, it's my favorite of the Romero movies and is very 80s in a good way.

I'd say a second place would be Manhunter (assuming that's what Mnahunter is supposed to be).

Not on that list that I'd add to my list of favorites would include Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps, Lady in White, and Near Dark.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

i voted THE THING because BLUE VELVET (while being my favorite movie of all time) is not horror.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

The Shining still scares the shit out of me.

Just voted in the 60's and 70's poll too. Makes you sad to see just how far the genre has fallen and this is coming from a fan of the 'found footage' horror movies.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

Gotta go with Nightmare on Elm Street. I grew up on that movie and still know it by heart. I find more to love about it with every viewing.

There are a couple close runner-ups in this one again though. The Shining and The Thing are both truly amazing. Lots of other gems in that list.

I am really enjoying these threads JumpCutz! Thanks for posting them. They are a nice way to build anticipation for the October horror challenge!

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

I still can't decide if Jaws is horror in the 70s thread though I'll give you Alien, Aliens definitely isn't horror though. Went American Werewolf in London over The Thing.
Oh shit would have picked The Shining, didn't see it.

The Thing

... but I pretty much love the shit out of every film on that list.

And Blue Velvet isn't horror.

If we're throwing Aliens in as Horror, then that's the one for me.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

The Thing is most likely going to win but I got to go with The Changeling. It doesn't get quite the love it deserves.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

Evil Dead 2 is my favorite movie period.

Just looking at that list makes me want to have an 80s horror marathon this weekend. So many good movies.

My favorite on this list is Aliens, but I don't consider it horror at all. So I voted for The Fly.

Re: Favorite 80's Horror film?

Wait, why is Evil Dead 2 on here and not The Evil Dead? The latter is more of a horror movie while the former is more of a comedy...
