The Expendables 3

The sequel hasn't been released yet and already they're hard at work prepping the potential cast for part 3:

I haven’t seen The Expendables 2 yet, but the biggest selling point for the sequel and the original is the cast. If you were an action movie star, then The Expendables franchise wants you to pick up a gun and blow shit up. According to Producer Avi Lerner, they’ve already got Nicolas Cage signed up to do just that in The Expendables 3. It’s worth noting that The Expendables 3 isn’t a done deal. Lionsgate hasn’t given the third film a greenlight, but the studio will most likely continue the franchise if the upcoming sequel dominates the box office this weekend (and it probably will).

Cage is the latest addition to the cast (all of which are slated to return, according to Lerner), but he may not be the only big name to join the series. Hit the jump for more.

Speaking to Total Film, Lerner says he’s got big plans for The Expendables 3 casting:

We’ve approached Clint Eastwood to be one of the guys, we’ve got a character in mind for him. We’re talking to Harrison Ford. [And we want] Wesley Snipes when he comes back from prison. I’ll give you one more name, we’ve got Nicolas Cage to play [one of the characters].”

“And we’re going to bring Mickey Rourke back, if he won’t be too crazy. I like Mickey. And of course, all the existing stars [will return]”
Eastwood seems like an unlikely draw. He had previously retired from acting after Gran Torino, but was persuaded to return to help longtime associate director Robert Lorenz‘ feature debut, Trouble with the Curve. As for Ford, it’s possible since he’s been willing to take on a supporting role in recent years (although this would be a considerably larger ensemble), and I love the comment about “Snipes when he comes back from prison.” Snipes is due for release on July 19, 2013, so they’ll have to figure that into their schedule if the actor says yes and the third film is a go.

Snipes yes; Eastwood and Ford won't do it. They should talk to Kurt Russell again.

Did Seagal "asshole" his way out of doing an Expendables? Sounds like something he might do.

Re: The Expendables 3

I was gonna say Eric Roberts, but then I remembered that he was in the first one and got killed. Still, they can have him play his twin brother or something. I'd love to see Rourke and Roberts reunited after nearly 30 years (POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE).

Oh, and Steven Seagal needs to be forced into this somehow.

And what about Donnie Yen?

And Sonny Chiba?

Not really. He just hates Avi Lerner's guts. I guess they had some business dealings that went bad back when Seagal was actually a bankable star.

Re: The Expendables 3

It'd be awesome if they actually got Ford or Eastwood to do it but like others said I kind of doubt it. Snipes doesn't have much else to do these days it doesn't seem like so I don't see why he'd turn it down.

Re: The Expendables 3

I don't need to see Eastwood, Ford, or Snipes. Hell, I don't even care if Rourke ever comes back.

But Kurt Fucking Russell? YES.

He was asked to be in the first one, but turned it down. Well, his agent turned it down saying that "Kurt was not interested in ensemble pieces at the moment."

Hopefully he'll have a change of heart seeing that this is a successful franchise.

Re: The Expendables 3

for Seagal...Does "asshole" his way out of it mean being a fat fuck who probably can't or won't get in shape ever again? Cuz if so...yes. If Seagal was in this...he'd have to be fucking convincing. That and Lerner has bad blood w/ Seagal. More of the latter though..I still don't like him though.

Just go to Trejo and Russell again. And I'd like to hear it from Russell himself as to why he wouldn't do this over hearing it from his agent who gave us Russell's answer. Trejo shouldn't be busy enough to say no to this. He only opted out last time cuz of Predators, best friends w/ RR.

Re: The Expendables 3

God...that first Expendables thread is hilarious to read. Especially the first 20 pages or so. Maybe a bit more until we got the trailer. You should check it for nostalgia and just to laugh.

I'd also be happy w/ somehow getting Jesse Ventura in there. He has a great on screen personality. Even though Sly and Weathers are iffy now..I still want to see that handshake again from Arnold and Weathers. Damn thing is epic.

I said it before (back when Expendables 2 was but a geam in Sly's eye) and I'll say it again. This guy

for the villain.

Bring in Alan Rickman in Hans Gruber mode. I'd pay to see him be bad again up against Willis.

I wonder if Snipes coming out of jail in July 2013 will be super buffed? That would be cool.

Like him or not, he's a glaring omission. I meant asshole, SS. I would've said "larded his way out" if I wanted to call him a fat fuck.

P.S.-Would love to see a cameo by Al Leong as a random henchmen being blown away by an Expendable.

I've been asking for this since the first movie. At this point, only lead nameless henchman as his role will suffice.

How many Expendables would he have met if he were in EX3?

Re: The Expendables 3

Have Harrison Ford come in at the end and kill them all for absolutely no reason whatsoever and it'll be the biggest movie of 2015.
