what you think are the best trilogies in films ?

Hi everyone as we all know the dark knight rises is in theaters. People are calling the Nolan batman films a great trilogy. I would like people opinion on here what do you think are the best trilogies out there ? i know there not a lot of great trilogies cause most of the time the third movie always turn out to be crap or not as good as the other two, or the film makers just didn't hit it out of the ball park when it came to wrapping it up.

here what i think are the best trilogies

1 the man with no name trilogy
2 the dark knight trilogy
3 back to the future trilogy
4 the night of the living dead trilogy
5 the evil dead trilogy
6 toy story trilogy.
7 the vengeance trilogy

i cant think of any more lol

The Back to the Future Trilogy.

The ultimate strength of a good trilogy is the quality of its weakest installment and BTTF part III is an enjoyable outing (though nowhere as brilliant as the preceding films). It wraps things up in a satisfying manner.

Most trilogies are either parabolic ("Good/Excellent/Stinker") or entropic ("Excellent/Good/Stinker"). BTTF part III makes a good landing.

Not to get too technical but...it's not really the man w/ no name. I think it's properly called the Dollars trilogy.

Oh, yeah:

Dollars trilogy
TDK trilogy
LoTR
Vengeance trilogy
Toy Story trilogy
Evil Dead trilogy

Indiana Jones Trilogy. I liked each one especially Temple Of Doom as my favorite.
Red White And Blue. Great films and not a bad one in all three.

I've never heard of it being referred to as the Dollars Trilogy.

If one overlooks The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, The Matrix Trilogy was fantastic.

Re: what you think are the best trilogies in films ?

If we can still consider the first three Indiana Jones movies a trilogy (especially since, at the time, CRUSADE was supposed to be the swan song), I think we can consider that the best of the lot. The Godfather trilogy is great too...I know the third movie pales in comparison to the first two, but it's still a "good" movie - it's just that the first two are masterpieces.

Think LOTR trilogy is overrated...thought the films got progressively less entertaining and more over-blown as they went along. I'll concede that FELLOWSHIP is a great film. The other two, not so much.

There used to be a good one called The Living Dead trilogy, but then Romero made more and yeah they weren't good.

The Wrath of Khan + The Search for Spock + The Voyage Home should count as a trilogy within the Star Trek series.

Alien + Aliens + Alien^3 should also count under the same principle.

I would say the thematic trilogy of Star Trek II-IV is a solid contender too.

If Kurosawa had made a third movie featuring Sanjuro, that would probably be my pick.

It's the 'Man With No Name Trilogy'. The actual title of the film is 'The Magnificent Stranger' - 'Magnifico Straniero'. The whole 'Dollars' thing was a lame ass re-title to appeal to western audiences. Like something the Weinsteins might do today. Leone was not happy about it.

The first time Clint Eastwood saw stuff in industry publications about the international success of some movie about 'Dollars', he didn't even realize it was his movie until he was later told. He later said in interviews 'I knew I was in a movie about a mysterious stranger. That was the central theme, a mysterious man with no name, that had nothing to do with dollars'.

'Dollars' is the incorrect one. Both are widely used.

It's all marketing anyway, Leone didn't really plan it as a trilogy.

Growing up those were my big four (with LOTR being the newest addition, obviously). Perhaps over several more viewings The Dark Knight Trilogy will make my list of favorites.
