Re: Covert Affairs -- Season Premiere -- "Hang on to Yourself" -- 7/10/12

I knew it. Called it in my 1st post that Jai was getting killed off.

It made sense. His character was slowly being phased out since last season. Never really liked Jai anyways. The only thing that sucked about his death in this episode was it being more of an afterthought. We didn't see a funeral and there was no guest appearance by Gregory Itzen either.

Anyways, pretty entertaining 1st episode. Really impressed that they actually shot it overseas in Morocco. Piper Perabo confirmed tonight on Twitter that they shot on location in Morocco for 3 days. It looks like they are actually spending money for location shooting in this show. I know they shot an episode in Germany and Rome last season.

at Annie, you slut and tease. It's funny how her new boss said that female operatives are discouraged from sleeping with their targets and low and behold she hops in the shower with that dude.

I don't know how many of you noticed, but they sure as hell dropped alot of foul language....shits and bullshits in this episode. I don't ever recall the language being that coarse in seasons past. Maybe this show is finally developing a little more of an edge now?

Of all the names they could have given Sarah Clarke's character on this show, they choose Nina?

Doesn't that just start the countdown until she's revealed to be a mole?

She's actually Lena but yeah the first thought when I saw her was that she ordered the car bombing.

Yay--Mohinder got blowed up!

Nice start to the season. I don't really care much about the political maneuvering at CIA headquarters, but all of Annie's stuff was good. Piper Perabo does a great job.

Itzen will be showing up later in the season and they've said (as the ending of the episode showed us) Jai's death will be the overarching story of the season.

As for the foul language, well USA knows they can get away with it now so they'll do it where necessary. Soon, Carlin's 7 words will actually be uttered on network TV.

It's Jeff from Coupling. Weird not to hear him discussing breasts or other female body parts.

at how quick Jai got killed off. Wish they had come up with something more interesting than a car bomb since it was obviously coming when she went back for the umbrella.

Love those pics of Piper in the OP.

How long before Annie and Augie get together?

Enjoyed the episode, but wondering where they're going with Annie's new job and how it will make the show any better. (Or is it legit all just for the inter-departmental secrecy and to throw another monkey wrench in to a possible Annie/Augie relationship.)

Spoiler:
If you watched the scenes from next week, am I alone in being a bit confused as to why it was cut to make it appear Joan was giving Annie and Augie an assignment like in the old days before both of them were transferred? Was Annie's transfer a temporary one? Was it an example of some guy who hadn't seen the episode being tasked with editing together that promo and screwing it up?

Agree. Terrible promo for next week. It basically looked like they ignored how this episode ended. I hope it was just poorly cut and there is a smoother transition.

^I noticed that about the "next week" promo, too, and was wondering why it looked this first episode hadn't happened. I guess we'll find out.

I am impressed by their location shoots, too. I appreciate that they do that when they can.

I know. I keep wondering if he and Annie are going to become porn buddies and watch Lesbian Spank Inferno.

Splitting Augie and Annie and trying to develop stories separately will doom the show. They need to keep them together as they have great chemistry. I'd still prefer she report to Joan but Lena may work if it gives Annie different cases.

Really enjoyed this episode. I missed quite a few episodes last season so I was surprised to see President Logan's son is dead. What happened exactly?

EDIT: I see from the other posts it was a car bomb. I must've missed the exact beginning then. All I recall is the episode starting with him already dead so I thought it happened last season.

throw the s-bomb in with the fact that annie went "all-in" with the operative at the end makes you wonder where they want to go now

I vowed to stop watching if they didn't give her a gun, because its ridiculous that she's out in the field without one. Looks like that's coming soon.
