Re: Adventure: Or How Xbox stopped worrying and ripped of Uncharted

LOL!

Well, Uncharted was "inspired" by Tomb Raider and Indiana Jones... this game at least is a FPS so the shooting parts should work better.

But yeah, the best part of the original Uncharted was the writing and the voice acting. In the latter games you can add the graphics.

I doubt the writing and voice acting in this game will be that good.

The Farm 51 debuted its latest game at an event earlier this week, a first person shooter called The Adventurer. The game is set before World War II and stars one Victor “Vic” Chandler, on the hunt for various mythical artefacts. Gameplay seems to be a mixture of linear exploration with lots of secrets, puzzle solving, and gun battles. Although it’s in pre-alpha, The Farm 51 showed off a couple of levels and expects the game to be ready for PC and Xbox 360 release this year, with PlayStation 3 to follow – providing a publisher can be found. GryOnline has the details, in Polish at this stage. The Farm 51 is best known for controversial horror title NecroVision.

I think the new tomb raider looks pretty good. I may give it a chance.

Yeah I don't quite get the "xbox" part of this either. It's just a third party game that MS has nothing to do with.

Yeah, like the OP was trying to go the flame-bait route.

Review ( http://www.gamespot.com/necrovision/...eview-6210512/ ) of their last game I guess?

I love Uncharted but always hated the action in the game (it was alright in moderation, but by the end of the games it became the focus and it frankly was the least fun aspect of the series). I doubt this game will be anywhere near as good. Also wasn't necessary to clone Keanu Reeves for the role.

a game can not come out on the xbox without approval...this game may or may not be a lot like Uncharted, but if it is...xbox had to give it an ok...

It's also coming out on pc. So I guess the pc is ripping off Uncharted too? I prefer that Microsoft not censor my games for me (although I'm sure that they do), leave it to Naughty Dog to sue the developer, not the platform holder.

? really?

lol

I found the game to be funny in how close it looked like Uncharted...the title was in fun...not sure the hate...

but if we are going to get technical..the pc is a more open platform than the 360. I am going to tell you something you may not know, but you could go program a game right now for the pc and release it.

The xbox is not as open. You can NOT program a game for it and release it. You need approval.

So yes, if a game comes out on the 360 that is a copy of another, Microsoft is NOT going to approve it...

You have got to be joking. The approval process isn't that deep. Quality seldom matters in the approval process. Otherwise crappy games like Superman 64 would never exist. Otherwise all the FPS clones that look eerily similar to each other would never exist.

This game looking like Uncharted isn't going to matter to Microsoft one bit when it comes to approving it.

well we are not talking about quality, we are talking about possible ripoff of a game made by someone else...

If a game is made called Metal Gear Solid and they try to release it on the 360, Microsoft would not allow it. You could make it available for the pc though...not saying they would not get sued, but it could come out. If you made a game that was not rated, it would never come out on the 360 (they require rating)...but it could come out on the pc. If you made a game that was the exact copy of Mario and called it Fred...Microsoft would not allow it to come out on the 360, but you could release it on the pc...once again I am not saying they would not get sued, just that they could release it....

There is absolutely approval involved in a game coming out on the 360. I am not saying this adventure game is a copy of Uncharted, but it does look enough alike that I think it is funny.

Re: Adventure: Or How Xbox stopped worrying and ripped of Uncharted

First of all, if the dialog is as broken as the text that came with that video it will be HILARIOUS. Honestly I don't think you can compare to 2. The new tomb raider is closer to uncharted than this game. The cutscenes look decent but the gameplay parts they showed don't look very good at all.

I wouldn't call this an uncharted rip off anymore than I would call it a Doom rip off because it's an FPS

Your stretching your argument to fit your title and it suspiciously feels like trolling. If it makes a store shelf and never comes out on another system then you might have an argument, until then this is just troll bait.

Yes it looks like Uncharted (a LOT), but at this point MS nor the Xbox has anything to do with it. I could show you a screenshot of a PS3 game I'm working on called the Legend of Smelda. Would Sony be held responsible at this point? No, and they likely wouldn't address it either. They may send the developer a cease and desist order but I highly doubt this is worthy of addressing in a public matter.

It's no more of a ripoff of Uncharted than The Last of Us is a ripoff of I Am Legend.

I was talking more than just quality in my example. I mentioned all the FPS games that look like carbon copies of each other. The term "Doom clone" has been around forever precisely because so many FPS games look like carbon copies of each other.

If a game is made called Metal Gear Solid and they try to release it on the 360, Microsoft would not allow it.
That is a completely different situation. The name "Metal Gear" is trademarked by Konami. Nobody else can use it. However, other companies can use giant mechs. (And many games do have giant mechs....) They just cannot call their giant mechs a "metal gear" or else it is a trademark violation.

This game is NOT a trademark violation. It does not use any of the characters or names or anything from the Uncharted games. The setting itself cannot be trademarked. There are plenty of games with a similar setting. Heck, Uncharted itself is very similar in setting to Indiana Jones and Tomb Raider. In fact, the new Tomb Raider is becoming even more like Uncharted, so basically by your own logic the new Tomb Raider should not be allowed because it "rips off" Uncharted despite the fact that Uncharted "ripped off" Tomb Raider first...

Nothing in the world is truly 100% original anymore. Everything borrows something from somewhere else.

There is absolutely approval involved in a game coming out on the 360.
There really isn't much approval at all. Basically they won't approve a game that is bordering on porngraphic or is a trademark violation or anything like that. The "seal of approval" essentially means the developer had enough money to pay for a license, and that's about it.

I am not saying this adventure game is a copy of Uncharted, but it does look enough alike that I think it is funny.
But you are saying it is ripping off Uncharted so much that its a trademark violation just begging for a lawsuit. Which isn't anywhere close to the truth. Its no more a lawsuit waiting to happen than Uncharted is for "ripping off" Tomb Raider.

Whoa, calm down guys. I'm not saying this is a ripoff of Uncharted, I'm just saying it's a ripoff of Uncharted.

and you are throwing the word troll out way to quickly...my argument...everything I have said after my initial post was in response to saying I was trying to bait..that was not my intention...my responses have focused in on one persons belief that anything can get approved by Microsoft for the 360 outside porn and copyright infringements...so yes I am getting off topic on the original post, but I stand by my statement...all my arguments have nothing to do with this game outside the fact that is has a big Gameloft feel to it...

it is pure speculation on my part early on if this game is close to uncharted...actually after having watched some videos a lot of it looks like some adventure puzzle games that were popular on the pc a few years ago..But...if it was a rip of Uncharted...and I am not talking the fact that is a fps...or has marines..I am talking similar music, story structure...then at some point someone with Microsoft has to be smiling when it is approved.

I am a huge fan of uncharted and not such a huge fan of 360, but even I can't get behind this being a ripoff of uncharted.

Your responses have been more than that actually. You keep claiming that the game is such a ripoff that its a lawsuit waiting to happen.

And regarding the approval process, you seriously believe its that stringent? If you have an idea for a game that isn't illegal (no copyright infringements) or controversial (no porno games) and you have the means to pay for a license then you are mostly likely going to get approved. The approval process certainly isn't that stringent. Money talks. It isn't just Microsoft. Its Sony and Nintendo and heck any profit-based company, money is the number one goal. If you have an idea for a game and the money to pay for it, you are essentially approved.

Otherwise how do you explain all the crappy ass games like Superman 64 get made? Do you think Nintendo actually sat down and approved it saying "hey that game looks great." No, they just said "hey you got the money for a license so its all good."

Sturgeon's Law says 90% of everything is crap. That holds true for EVERYTHING. The "Nintendo seal of approval" has always been a load of crap. Even during the so-called glory days of the NES. Look at any ROM site and you will see over a thousand NES roms, but you would be hard pressed to list more than a hundred good games on the NES. So literally 90% of the games were crap.* All the "Nintendo seal of approval" meant was that the developer had money they were willing to blow.

*Nostalgia is a powerful drug. We tend to fondly remember the NES, but we also only tend to remember the good games. We don't tend to remember the bad games which made up 90% of the library. I'm not deliberately trying to pick on the NES though because its like that with any console. I just chose the NES because I remember back in those days they always claimed the "Nintendo seal of approval" was some glorious thing.

Love the title change on the thread

FWIW Fox, I know what you're getting at, but the graphics being somewhat close to uncharted (not really, they look pretty horrible compared to uncharted imo) doesn't really make it a rip off. The Tomb Raider game coming out soon looks way closer to uncharted than this will.
