Subwoofer Suddenly Not Working

I have an Energy S8.2-1 that I've owned for 12-13 years without any problems. Recently, there is no sound coming out of it whatsoever. New cables were installed 2 years ago when I moved, so I don't believe that is the issue. Do these speakers just die suddenly? There's a small LED light that lights up when I power the speaker on, but it otherwise is lifeless. I pulled the manual for the sub and there are no troubleshooting tips. Can anyone here provide me with any tips to diagnose the problem?

I went online and purchased a Velodyne replacement sub at Costco with free shipping. I figure that if the new one doesn't work either when connected, then the speaker wasn't the issue and I will return it.

As a separate issue, What is the LFE input used for? My sub only has one cable routed into a non-LFE input. Am I missing out on something? Thanks!

I'm going to assume you mean LFE output. That is generally what the sub should be hooked into. Stands for Low Frequency Effects, aimed at a sub. Depending on your settings, you may be fine or you may have been missing much of your bass. Since this is not hooked up normally, you could have switched into some mode that simply isn't sending anything to the sub. Or something could be wrong with the receiver.

BTW:
Yes, a speaker could just die suddenly.

Re: Subwoofer Suddenly Not Working

I was confused, my existing sub has "xover" not LFE.

The non-working sub is hooked up the same as it was when it was working. The LED setting/display on my receiver is as it is normally set. I'll try setting up the new sub when I receive it during the week and see if that resolves the issue (i.e. dead speaker).

I plugged in the new SW and it works! Ending up being a dead speaker after all.

I'm having the same prob with my 8-9 yr old Sony sub. Sometimes it works, most the time it dont. I think the subs amp is going bad.
