Newbie SteamPlay Question
I'm relatively new to this Steam thing and I primarily play on my Mac because I don't have a non-work PC anymore and I haven't got around to installing a VM yet.
So today the new Penny Arcade RPG came out and I really want it. It's currently PC only but they say that Mac is coming later.
If I buy now and they add Mac support later, will my purchase be upgraded to SteamPlay automagically? And, if so, will my PC saves transfer to my Mac version seamlessly?

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
Well, my brother actually responded to my text and tells me that this happened to him with Half-Life 2. So, I guess my question is answered unless someone else has different information.

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
Buying now on Steam will get you the Mac version as well when it's released on Steam.

As for saved games, I believe that depends on whether they implemented Steam's Cloud Save feature into their game. Note that just because a game is for sale on Steam doesn't mean it uses SteamPlay or any of its features. For example, the first two episodes (on sale now!) mention both PC/Mac support and SteamPlay support:

Ep 3 doesn't show SteamPlay support:

SteamPlay gets you both the PC and Mac version for the same price.

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
Can it have SteamPlay without both PC and Mac versions anyway?
My understanding is that SP just means you get both platforms and it has no bearing on how or if it uses the cloud.

I got SteamPlay confused with SteamWorks, specifically Steam Cloud:

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
You're right, SteamPlay means having both Mac and Windows support:

Kill him! Oh wait.
I'm not sure if your question has been answered.
Did they say the game is going to support SteamPlay?
Or do all games that are in Steam, that have PC and Mac versions, support SteamPlay?
My question is because the publishers of HL2 and PA3 are different.
And finally, does it taste normal?

What’s the price?
The game will sell on Steam for $4.99, SteamPlay gets you both the PC and Mac version for the same price. The Xbox version sells for 400 Microsoft Points.

They changed developers from Hothead to Zeboyd. If you buy on Steam before 7/2, you get Zeboyd's previous 8-bit-style RPG games, Breath of Death VII and Cthulhu Saves the World for free.

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
Yeah, Hothead bailed after episode 2, deciding instead to focus on DeathSpank. At that point, it was thought the game series was over. Tycho even wrote and released episode 3 as prose (spoilers for the new game, obviously):

Then Zeboyd came along.

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
All of that and Gabe has stated publicly that he has nothing to do with this installment, though obviously his influence is all over it.
He said the process on the first two games of designing art and then having other people actually create it left a very deep void when he saw the finished products. Kind of over-dramatic, but you know: artists.

That's sort of ironic because the practice of releasing a decent but unremarkable and short first episode of a comic XBLA RPG at an unprecedented high price for no apparent reason besides the creator's own self-importance left a deep void in my soul.

Re: Newbie SteamPlay Question
Just watched the trailer. That is way different than the other 2 which makes sense since it's a different house doing it, but I'm not real sure I dig the 16 bit graphics, they haven't aged well to me.

IGN really liked the depth of the new fighting system and gave it an 8.0 in their review today.

Tycho discovered that he loves writing games and I discovered I hate drawing them.
I produced a ton of artwork for the first two episodes. I filled sketchbooks with designs for everything from the main characters to lamp posts. I storyboarded all the cutscenes and drew every weapon and item. All that stuff was then turned over to some extremely talented artists who turned it all into the 3D models and animated movies in the game. The result was beautiful but very little of my actual art appeared in the game. Jerry’s contribution was much more direct. You read every word he wrote just as he wrote it but my stuff was more inspiration and direction for other artists.
What I like is drawing comics and then showing them to people. If you like it that’s great and if you don’t, well maybe you’ll like the one I draw tomorrow. Working for years on a project and then feeling like I had nothing to show for it was a real downer for me. I respect the hell out of the artists who make games but I just can’t do it. I don’t like doing it and I think because of that I’m not especially good at it. What I’m good at is drawing cartoons and so that’s what I want to focus on.
