So which episodes do you like ?

Colossus and the Headhunters ("look at these bunch of guys, i am king of the losers")

Danger Death Ray ("well i tried my best that's all one could ask for, i am technically on vacation")

The Sword and the Dragon

Castle of Fu Manchu

Boggy Creek II ("Maybe they could fashion their makeup into a crude spear for protection")

Re: Mystery Science Theater 3000 talk

I always liked the short films they'd play before the main film. Many times, I'd just get bored during the main film & hardly ever watched the endings.

This was the list I made a few years ago of my favorites (which I divide up between Joel and Mike episodes)...

My Favorite Joel Episodes:

#4) 321 - Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
#5) 424 - Manos: The Hands of Fate (with short: Hired! Pt 2)
#6) 422 - The Day the Earth Froze (with short: Here Comes the Circus)
#7) 301 - Cave Dwellers
#8) 309 - The Amazing Colossal Man
#9) 311 - It Conquered the World (with short: Snow Thrills)
#10) 306 - Time of the Apes
#11) 315 - Teenage Caveman (with shorts: Aquatic Wizards and Catching Trouble)

My Favorite Mike Episodes:
#1) 521 - Santa Claus
#2) 519 - Outlaw (of Gor)
#3) 601 - Girls Town
#4) 517 - Beginning of the End
#5) 610 - The Violent Years (with short: Young Man’s Fancy)
#6) 617 - The Sword and the Dragon
#7) 602 - Invasion USA (with short: A Date with Your Family)
#8) 701 - Night of the Blood Beast (with short: Once Upon a Honeymoon)
#9) 605 - Colossus and the Headhunters
#10) 910 - The Final Sacrifice
#11) 518 - The Atomic Brain (with short: What About Juvenile Delinquency?)

(Of course, if I re-watched all the episodes again, it would probably change this list a bit)

Re: Mystery Science Theater 3000 talk

The MST 3K movie never made sense because essentially every episode is a movie.

My two favorites off the top of my head other than Manos are Hercules vs The Moon Men and The Magic Sword. Watching each new one every Saturday night was awesome, especially during the golden years of Joel's run.

My favorite is Space Mutiny. It say something when the best element by far in a film is the effect shots stolen from the original Battlestar Galactica TV show. It says even more when the rest of the film provides so much material that the MST3K crew doesn't even get around to riffing on that fact.

"Manos" is an odd episode. Hard-core fans love it, but I've shown it to people that are less familiar with the show and they're more astounded by how bad "Manos" is and not how funny MST3K can be. Its really not the best show for the quality of its "riffs".

Manos is a brain meltingly bad movie, it's one of the MST3K advanced courses. Almost always, the first ep. I'll show anyone is "The Day the Earth Froze." Particularly if they are Scandahoovian.

I always loved the newer/color episodes the best (Joel or Mike is fine by me). Greatest TV show ever? Yes...yes it is.

It's not a good episode at all to use to introduce new people to the show!

For introduction, I think it's best to use a Short for that (especially good would be one of the compilation videos of Shorts that Rhino put out).

NetFlix "Watch Instantly" streaming has a few MST3K episodes too.

(Including "Monster a Go-Go" - an episode which has a movie that I think is even worse than "Manos")

Hulu has several Rifftrax movies and shorts for free.

Also, there are two 24/7 Shoutcast TV streams showing nothing but MST3K. I've got one running for several hours every day, at work and home. Google it.

Re: Mystery Science Theater 3000 talk

Before Comedy Central was offered with just about every cable package, I used to only be able to watch this great show when I was on vacation and happened upon an episode at our rented condo or hotel. I had a group of friends in high school who loved the show and one had satellite and would tape the episdoes which we would rotate.

My favorite eps. were:
Pod People- first one I ever saw
Mitchell- probably the best Joel one IMO, shame it was his last
Manos- I loved how they actually saw this as the "mads" crossing the line in terms of bad movies

The Mike ones are not really MST3K but RiffTrax. I used them to watch the first two Twilight movies and wouldn't have survived those movies had I not.

Re: Mystery Science Theater 3000 talk

I love so many of them, that any list would change faster than I can type it out. But there are three episodes that I've probably seen far more than the rest and hold up very well:

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (I make a point to watch it every Christmas)
Hobgoblins (a great movie to start someone out)
Space Mutany (words cannot do justice to describe how silly this movie is)

Mr. B Natural is still my favorite short:

I wish I had joined the fan club. I should have sent off to join when I first saw the show, broadcast as part of the syndication package (my city didn't have Comedy Central at the time).

I didn't out-and-out join, but I did buy something from their website a few years ago, which automatically signs you up as a member of the fan club.

(Of course, this was years after the show went out-of-production, so there were no more newsletters by then.)
