This is the longest we've gone without a new Beck album since he started.
It's been almost 4 years since Modern Guilt. He came out with a new song earlier this year for the Jeff Who Lives at Home soundtrack, which was great. Some stuff for Scott Pilgrim, and other soundtracks. But...man is anybody else anxious for a new record?

When he does release something, I hope it is along the lines of Midnite Vultures, as that is easily the best thing he has done.

But he has done a slew of the "Beck's Record Club" albums which admittedly weren't new material or physical releases but were a heck of a lot of fun - I think the INXS and Velvet Underground ones were my favorite.
But yeah, it would be nice to see a new 'official' album, Modern Guilt was quite good and he's one of those rare artists who I'll pretty much follow wherever they go.

Beck is one of my favorite artists. I think he's gotten better with each album. LOVED Modern Guilt. So yes, it's been tough waiting for a new album as I'm sure it'll be exceptional.

He's one of my favorites. But he's also know as being very prolific. Which makes me wonder if he's essentially sitting on a stockpile of new material trying to shape it into an album or something. I thought I read in Spin that he was tinkering with some stuff with Nigel Godrich last year.
Personally, I think Sea Change is a masterpiece and although that will never happen again I'd gladly like to see it.

Beck is one of those artists that I've enjoyed through the years, dating all the way back to "Loser" premiering, but I've never followed his output closely enough to know when he has new music coming out.

I'd recommend a listen to "Looking For a Sign" if you liked Sea Change.
Midnite Vultures is awesome....but pretty out there. I'll have to give the Record Club a listen, the one session I listened to seemed kind of strange.

Beck's produced enough great music at this point that I feel as if I can listen to his back catalog if I need a Beck fix. Also, his stuff is very detailed and stands up to repeated listens. I'm still noticing little things in Odelay.

I've been listening to Elevator Music (track 1 from The Information) on repeat for a while. I liked it a bit back then, but really appreciate it now. When I first bought The Information, it sounded like something Beck put together in like 5 seconds, with all the videos, etc. But it seems a lot more than that looking back on it.
I recently bought One Foot in the Grave and the Soulmanure one, and haven't really heard them all the way through, so I guess there's that.
I'd been buying his albums from Odelay onwards, skipped Mutations because someone said it was bad, and I took that advice for some reason. Years later I'm thinking "That guy was...wrong."

His vocal style also changed around Midnite Vultures. It was more... whiny? Hard to describe.

Either way, I must be one of the only Beck fans who doesn't like "Sea Change".
It's painfully dull and hard to get through from start to finish.
Sooo...here's my list of Beck albums I own, from favorite to least:

I'd love me some new Beck. He's one of the artists for me that I'm always very excited to get a new record from, knowing that it'll be something different and most likely something great.

What? It's a downbeat, down-tempo collection of "sad sack" songs that came out when I was at a happy point in my life. Had it come out when I was going through a painful break-up...well, maybe it would've stuck with me more. Fact is, I like a few songs but I've only made it through the album start to finish maybe three or four times.

Hmmmm. I'll try a ranking, though I don't dislike any of them. Mellow Gold was probably the least accessible for me, but it does have some really good tracks. Midnite Vultures and Odelay can flip flop for me, they're close. Guero, Mutations and Sea Change can also switch amongst themselves, but Guero is probably my favorite of the three. Next is The Information which I appreciate more now.
