Bronson (2009 - dir. Refn) s: Hardy

Just watched this on Netflix the other day in HD.

I can undoubtedly say that Refn is in my top 10 directors currently working today. The man's films are nothing short of fantastic. His choice in actors, music, lighting, style, cinematography, script... all excellent.

I'm even more excited to see what Hardy has in store for Bane after watching him here. He runs the show completely, and delivers a superb performance. His inane ramblings and schizophrenic rants felt like he was a genuine madman. The film rarely gave him someone else to play off of, meaning that the onus rested entirely on Hardy to deliver.

My favorite scene was when Bronson is fighting two other guys in that underground club while Glass Candy plays in the background. The track fit in perfectly with the lighting of the club. I'd grab it off YouTube, but I can't at the moment.

I thought this was a movie of highs and lows, it started off strong but kind of trailed off for me. Still very well directed and acted, I'm actually going to peg my disappointment on the script.

Wow. I can't believe we don't have a thread on this.

I fucking loved this movie. Just ooozed w/ style. It slightly bothered me, made me react to his actions, etc. Just great. Refn is one of the best working right now. Also...goddamn Tom Hardy. Like a fucking grenade in your hand. The son of a bitch was amazing. I'd probably rank it as an A-.

I can't wait for Refn's next film w/ Gosling they've got going on.

Oh and the clip you mentioned....I got that bitch on lock down on YT in my favorites.

I too love this movie, seen it a few times. Tom Hardy is a monster, it's one of the best performances i've ever seen. I almost have to pretend that he never played Bronson when I watch him in other movies, otherwise I start to fear his character.

I saw this for the first time a couple weeks ago but found it didn't have the same impact for me as Drive or Valhalla Rising. Thought Hardy was great though. Funny how two of my current favorite actors (him and JGL) happen to be in more than one Christopher Nolan film.

it's a solid flick but it's mostly style over substance. luckily it's A LOT of style. hardy is great but the story doesn't really go anywhere. i've shown it to a couple of friends who didn't know who the guy playing Bane was and they were on board with TDKR afterwards.

A Clockwork Orange meets Chopper.
Excellent performance by Hardy & direction by Refn.
Refn is surely becoming a force to be reckoned with.

I'll agree with you there, but I felt it worked within the context since the film is told from his perspective, and he's totally disjointed mentally.

That clip looks like a partial fan edit and the Glass Candy song is at a higher than natural pitch.

If there were ever a "best actor for life" award, Hardy deserves it for this film.

Great movie. I saw it after Drive and appreciated it more knowing where his talent has taken him. I still need to see the Pusher trilogy.
