Jessica Chastain the next big star?
Is she in the beginning stages of a long and fruitful career?
Born and bred in the Bay Area.
I have not seen The Help since it is on "Forever Long Wait" at Netflix but the only reason I might be interested is to see her perform.
If anyone saw Jolene on Directv or cable you would appreciate her even more as an actress. She was not afraid to do a lot of nudity in that flick.

Was she the cute kooky houswife on The Help that the other housewives hated? If so, I like her but have never heard of her before.

Probably, but more like she did in 2011 than pure mainstream.
in 2011 she was in The Tree of Life, The Debt, Take Shelter, The Help, Texas Killing Fields, Wild Salome and Coriolanus - only The Help was mainstream and that was something of a surprise success. She's kind of typecast as a housewife, but she does a stellar job of it (in The Help, Tree of Life and Take Shelter she had three different takes on a very similar role).
She also appears to be something of an Directors/Actor's actor. Tree of Life with Malick, Take Shelter with Jeff Nichols, Wilde Salome by Al Pacino, Coriolanus by Ralph Fiennes, The Debt by John Madden.
She's one of the few 30 year old actresses that doesn't look like a kid and is a great actress to boot. That's working to her benefit.

I just saw The Debt and think she has potential. I just think she needs to be in something mainstream where she is either the first or second lead to more firmly establish herself. I just don't want her to try the dopey romantic comedy route that many actresses seem to take, nor the romance movie one that seems to have been so fruitful for Rachel McAdams.

You may not've noticed, but Hollywood doesn't do next-big-thing actresses anymore. They just have hot pieces of ass who can act reasonably well that they stick in a bunch of movies for a couple years, after which they're dropped in favor of someone younger.

If this thread has been started two years+ ago, I might agree with the premise.
What's the next thread? "Is Christian Bale set to become a major star?"

She's amazing. Loved her in everything last year. Jolene was the first film I saw her in and loved her so much in it. Then tree of life. Just recently she did great in Texas Killing Fields and especially Take shelter. Shes easily one of my favorite actresses now.

JefftheAlpaca,
If you really want to see The Help soon, I would rent it from a Redbox near you. When I wanted to watch it, it was also on a Very Long Wait and I just picked it up from a Redbox shortly thereafter and deleted it from my queue.

She's only going to be the next big star if she can get larger roles in more mainstream movies. She's in a lot of smaller indie films which can make for a nice career but not towards becoming a "big star."

Really like her work. She's like a male version of Chris Pine only with a smaller forehead and much better acting chops.

She's the new Parker Posey. (Remember her?)

Maybe it was worded incorrectly but she might be one of those few actresses we see almost every year nominated during awards season.
