1900 (Novecento) 3-Disk Collector's Edition (4/24/12)

Says 3 disk collector's edition so it better come with good extras unless the film is on 2-disks and the score is on a 3rd disk or something. Still, this is a great epic film

Good to know Paramount hasn't given up on catalog titles just yet.

For the record, Olive Films is handling this release as part of a large number of catalog titles they licensed from Paramount.

Olive has been releasing increasingly interesting titles in good editions over the last year or so (Godard's Histoire du Cinema, two Fassbinder films, Bergman's Face to Face, etc.), and it's good to see that they're starting to embrace Blu-ray. This should be an awesome release.

Presented in its original two-part, five-hour version, this magnificent 3-disc edition also features BERNARDO BERTOLUCCI: Reflections on Cinema, a 2002 documentary spanning the career of the master director. (Same doc that is on the new Conformist disc from Arrow)
A profile of Bernardo Bertolucci drawn exclusively from stock footage in the RAI Archives. The director's rich and often controversial career is carefully reconstructed by means of dozens of interviews, specials, backstage clips and awards ceremonies. What emerges is the portrait of a complex artist whose work is constantly evolving; a thinking man who enjoys talking about himself and his experiences. [55 min.]
Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital stereo, French Dolby Digital mono, Italian Dolby Digital mono; Subtitles: English
Hopefully, more extras are announced than a single doc for the 3rd BD. Also, a lossless audio track would be nice.

Perhaps they'll also port over the two featurettes from the Paramount DVD? To the best of my knowledge, none of Olive's previous releases have included any extras at all.

From Olive Films site:
We are a growing company working towards including more titles in order to better serve our growing clientele. We welcome directors inputs and interests in film production and distribution. Also, we are always interested in obtaining copyrights to films that match our criteria.
Sounds like they don't have much to spend on extras at the moment.

Olive's 'Despair' blu-ray includes a making-of documentary that was ported from the German disk. That documentary was not included on the DVD version Olive released several months earlier.

In a case like this, maybe it would actually be good to email the studio and ask them if they have considered including Paramount's featurettes?
