The original by Them, hands-down. I've always liked 13th Floor Elevators version as a close second.

Re: Best version of Gloria?

I prefer the original with Gena Rowlands over the remake with Sharon Stone.

I prefer the TV theme off the ALL IN THE FAMILY spin-off.

Re: Best version of Gloria?

Them
The Doors (it was a sound check!)
Patti Smith

- although I first heard this glorious song by the Shadows of Knight, their version is now so lame to me.

Re: Best version of Gloria?

I have to go with Them. Van's voice, the guitar, the repeating theme - it's brilliant!

"If you drop a guitar down a flight of stairs, it'll play 'Gloria' on its way to the bottom." -Dave Barry

Re: Best version of Gloria?

Without a doubt the original version by Them. A fantastic song that I never tire of hearing.

Patti Smith's version is a close second though.

Re: Best version of Gloria?

Them and Patti Smith's versions are great but they don't touch The Doors' live version to me.
