Still need to wrap up Revelations, but for the foreseeable future, all AC games are day one purchases for me.

So what is the difference between a sequel and just a new subtitle in the series? I was wondering the same thing earlier today in regards to the new Resident Evil game coming in a few weeks and Resident Evil 6 coming during the Christmas season.

It will be interesting to see if this is a sequel that brings a lot to the table, or just so happens that they decided to put a 3 instead of a subtitle. Brotherhood and Revelations could have been 3 & 4 already. I am hoping this brings a lot of new elements. I really like the Assassin's Creed games, but I've steadily reached franchise fatigue because of the yearly releases. Each game I end up buying cheaper and cheaper and waiting longer and longer, because I've played a very similar game not too long ago.

I have faith that they've been legitimately working on this title since AC2 but they took the meantime to reuse the old engine to expand the mythology and fill the void. Multiplayer is great in those games, but by no means was it a necessary thing.
If nothing else, it'll focus on Desmond as the main character instead of Altair or Ezio. That alone is worthy of calling it "3".

I really don't see that happening. Not the way the series has gone. I know I'm not looking for anything but a conclusion or at least the start of the final chapter.

It seems like an intriguing setting, but the combat of AC has mostly been sword- and knife-based. I don't know if they could go to a period with guns (muskets?) without it becoming another shooter. I would hope you have limited access to them and still have to rely more on melee weapons.

Egypt was also just a rumor. So was the French Revolution.
This series has gotten incredibly stale for me -- I went from being a huge fan of the first two games to finding myself utterly bored by Brotherhood and entirely unengaged by Revelations to the point that I still haven't finished it. I can't see myself buying a new installment until it's very cheap, and even then only if it doesn't include the (IMO) awful and entirely unnecessary multiplayer which played a large part in killing any future interest I have in these games.
Fully willing to change my mind if the title warrants it, of course.

I'm guessing China (that was part of 16's blood paintings and there was that item Ezio gave Shao Jun at the end of Assassin's Creed Embers) and Desmond wont need the Animus to relive the events (given the bleeding effect that was shown in ACII and expanded upon in ACB).

I'm guessing Elizabethan England, and your character will pal around with William Shakespeare (in the "Da Vinci" role). Maybe with a cameo from Francis Drake (voiced by Nolan North, of course).

I've played them all, bought Revelations @ $29.99 & am loving it, so I'll definitely get this but likely not on day one. I think they've steadily improved, climbing, combat, etc., so I hope that trend continues.

Revelations was fun but the gameplay/storyline was getting real tiresome by the end, and only because it was "more of the same, with enhancements" for the third year in a row. Plus it really didn't "reveal" much that we didn't already suspect, and left way too many loose ends open from Brotherhood. Still, long in the tooth as it was, it was FUN.
AC3 will be a Day One purchase, but I'm REALLY hoping we get something new and innovative.

Total retcon, sure, but I bet the same conceit with be used for Shao Jun. I'm guessing Ezio gave her a similar "key". And through that, Desmond will link to her.
