During this episode, my wife--who's quite tolerant of bad television--turned to me and said, "This episode is pretty bad, huh?"
Yeah. It was.
Yeah. It was.

Sorta reminds me of that episode of Seinfeld they shot in reverse. Iirc it was one of the later season eps and suggested to me they were running out of ideas and grasping with gimmicks.
I did like the image of an old lady having her wig ripped off however.

Tonight's HIMYM episode was crazy to film. Just know: all three acts are exactly the same length. It'll make sense after you see it.

As soon as I read the episode description, I was convinced Rebecca Creskoff (Lenore from Hung) would be the divorcee Barney hits on.

This show reminds me of Star Trek: Voyager. By the time they finally
the audience didn't care anymore.
Spoiler:

It's always a problem with the concept is bigger than the laughs.
I did like Barney choosing to brave the bees naked over staying with the crazy chick.

Agree with MC.
Seems like they spent more time working on the concept than on writing actual jokes.
But yeah, the final scene made me laugh too.

I agree it wasn't a great episode. Was it just me or was even the acting for the 5 leads rather horrific, especially Hannigan?

Re: How I Met Your Mother -- "The Burning Beekeeper" -- 2/06/12
Started watching this show in reruns a while ago and got addicted. Easily the funniest show on TV...
Now I'm watching real time and what the heck happened. Horrible show last night. Couldn't wait for it to be over. Jumped the proverbial shark when they added Lilly's dad (who I cant even remember the actors name..that's how much I dislike him) and Martin Short.
Ted...get married already...it's time.

Yep. As I've said in the past season or so, I go out of my way to watch this show and now almost don't CARE how Ted meets the mother. This episode was the worst so far. I felt it didn't really resolve any story - like there was a final "button" scene that never came. Moving Lily and Marshall to the suburbs has definitely done the show no favors either.

He was the Jimmy Fallon of his hey-dey in SNL - that is, he was surrounded by brilliant comedians who somehow managed to elevate him. He's never been funny to me. His career is pretty much non existent.
I thought the episode had a good concept but the execution and the jokes were terrible. The best HIMYM episodes usually play with time and a non-linear narrative, and I think this was trying to emulate that but it felt really flat.

Chris Elliott got his start on Late Night with David Letterman sometime in the 1980s, where he appeared in skits and as himself. He generally played bizarre characters or appeared as himself.
In the early 90s he starred as a thirty-year old paperboy who lived with his mother and father, played by his real-life father, comedian Bob Elliott.
He was then on Saturday Night Live for one disastrous season alongside Janeane Garofalo and a couple of guys from "The Kids in the Hall." Around this time he also starred in a movie he co-wrote called "Cabin Boy" that earned him a worst actor Razzie.
He has also appeared in films like "Manhunter" and "The Abyss" in bit parts, as well as a supporting role in "There's Something About Mary."
His sense of humor is an acquired taste, and as someone who grew up with "Late Night with David Letterman," I have a soft for spot for the big weirdo.

Re: How I Met Your Mother -- "The Burning Beekeeper" -- 2/06/12
It was after this that he joined SNL in 1994 for one season. If you watched that season of SNL, you'd know it was a transition season from Chris Farely, Adam Sandler and Mike Myers to Will Ferrel and his bunch. You'd also know that Elliot was not used very often as a featured player. Janeane Garofalo suffered the same fate as Elliot that season in fact.
So no, he was not the "Jimmy Fallon of his day."
I do find it curious he was cast as Alyson Hannigan's father considering he's only 14 years older than she is.
