Official Swamp People discussion thread
Season 3 starts airing in 8 days. It will be interesting to see if they get spoiled by success or contrivedly dramatic like so many other reality shows like Deadliest Catch and Ax Men.
I have to say this: the new ads are horrible. They are extreme closeups of the different people grinning into the camera with a lullaby playing, and the characters have been altered with CG to make them look hideous, like they are these nightmarish swamp creatures. It's incredibly insulting to them.
And it looks like we got a second lady shooter to match Liz.

It's not CG, it's just really heavy contrast/color, they aren't very attractive people. I don't even think it's the colors that make it look bad, it's just the extreme close ups combined with slow motion.

Ok, wrong assumption on my part. Still, History isn't doing an homage to Sergio Leone. The intention is to portray these people as monsters, IMO. Those folks range from very likable to not so likeable, but no one is detestable like, say, Dave on Storage Wars or the entire cast of Ax Men. I'm really disappointed that Mike Kleibert chose not to come back because he was a remarkable character. Remember in Season One when he built that boat in a week with almost no plans or blueprints, just off the top of his head?
And yes, this isn't the cast of Hawaii 5-0 but I recall seeing an episode where Liz showed up for a party and she wasn't that bad looking. She cleaned up well. The Guist brothers? Well forget it. Mitchell's teeth are frightening.
BTW, the cast has been expanded to include a new Landry, a new Edwards, the new gal and some new hunters.

You should see the ads before you comment. Like I said, they are designed to make them look hideous. Kind of an insulting way to portray your stars.

I'm looking forward to the new season. I actually got to meet several of the cast members at a casino a few months ago and was pleasently surprised at how incredibly gracious they all were. What you see is truly what you get with these folks. Tommy was especially nice and reaaaally enjoyed the free beer. They all took a bunch of smoke breaks as well.

Well this should be good, pairing up the two women on one boat. Be fun to see how the girls do.
RJ had a pretty bad scare, although after reading how fake IRT and Gold Rush Alaska is, I'm wondering now.

I haven't seen the commercials, but then I seldom see commercials. I do watch the show and find it very interesting. But then I like IRT, Ax Men and Black Gold. Gold Rush Alaska, not so much but if some show drops out of the lineup I might give it a chance. Does anyone know if the WV coal mining show is going to be back on? It wasn't bad.
But, then I like watching shows of people doing jobs that I know I'll never even try.

Well last night's show was an amazing start. Troy bagged a 13 footer and Liz and Kristi got a 13.5 foot gator. They almost had heart attacks trying to get that dead weight into the boat. RJ fell in the water and got cut up bad, and Bruce Mitchell hired an Army sniper, who was picking off gators at 75 yards.
I fear contrivance but this is getting good. And I'd really like to see Kristi cleaned up. She's got a beautiful smile.

Well they are amping up the action, that's for sure. Seeing Troy jump that levee in a boat was silly.
But I wouldn't want those two Indians pissed at me. I get the feeling the only reason things didn't get ugly is because a camera crew was there.
BTW I was right, Kristi cleans up nicely.

Anyone catch last night's? Tommy really grew up from last season. Took in 22 gators solo.
And once again, the girls got a 13 foot gator. I refuse to believe that thing was a half ton but it was enormous.

Re: Official Swamp People discussion thread
Either this was the most staged show ever or those cameramen are really good. Some of the camera angles on this week's episode were perfect and perfectly timed, like when the Landrys were in the pirogue fighting that gator.
And it seems the Guist brothers are going to be this show's equivalent to Shelby on Ax Men: buffoons. Their woodworking on the porch was so sloppy it was sad. Mitchell, yeah, he's a little slow but Glenn is no moron. You can hear it when he speaks he's sharp. He works as a manager at a construction supply company. And yet he can't drive a nail?

Re: Official Swamp People discussion thread
Last night's episode felt staged to all hell. Three different crews named a gator (a tradition, to name your nemesis) and all caught it on the same day. In Troy's case, he'd been after it for a decade. Uh huh.
I did get a laugh out of the Molineres naming their target Pas Tout La, which means Not All There, a French euphemism for crazy. I knew a crazy French girl and boy did that term apply. But I'm wondering if that gator really did attack their boat or if they faked that.

All I know every time they show Glenn and Mitchell Guist I think of the saying,
"Paddle faster, I hear banjos."
I'm also sure they're fine fellows tho.

This is very sad news. Mitchell Guist has died.
http://www.tmz.com/2012/05/14/mitche...-swamp-people/
10:19 AM PDT -- Law enforcement sources tell us ... Mitchell was out in his boat along the Belle River ... when he "fell." Witnesses say he appeared to have been suffering from a seizure.
We're told another person on the boat returned the vessel to the dock and called 911. Emergency personnel responded to the scene and transported Mitchell to a nearby hospital ... but it was too late.
Mitchell Guist -- one of the bearded alligator-hunting brothers featured on the reality show "Swamp People" -- has died.
According to WBRZ.com, Mitchell was discovered at 9 AM in St. Martin Parish, Louisiana.
Law enforcement sources tell us ... someone tried to perform CPR on Guist ... but attempts to resuscitate the reality star were unsuccessful.
Sources close to Mitchell tell us ... Guist had recently fallen ill ... but the nature of his illness is still unclear.
Story developing ...

Did anyone watch the finale? RJ and Jay Paul topped the gator count with 500 to Troy's 480, but Troy scored the biggest gator at 13 feet 6 inches.
Bruce failed to tag out and was left with about a dozen at the end.
Liz and Kristi tagged out with a pretty big gator of their own.
Most frustrating, History made no mention of the passing of Mitchell Guist. They didn't say anything immedaitely after his death, so I figured maybe they would wait until season end. Nope, nothing. Since Mitchell's death, he and his brother haven't been featured once. That's low.

The Guists were featured in the third to last episode, where they cook gar and ask their sister to cook turtle but she refuses. This episode aired more than a month after Mitchell's passing.
Additionally, at the top of the episode that aired the same week he passed, there was a "Remembering Mitchell Guist" video, History has a whole section on their Swamp People page dedicated to him, and the Executive Producer of the show did an interview with CNN the day after he died talking about Mitchell.
