Met Dave Lombardo at NAMM today

Dave was among a bunch of drummers signing at the Ludwig booth and I got an autographed picture. More than that, I got some news. He said work has begun on a new Slayer album, Jeff is recovering nicely, and yes, Jeff's bout with the flesh-eating bacteria has inspired a song or two. I'd be disappointed if he didn't.

Tomorrow I'm hoping to meet Jeff Loomis and Chris Broderick.

Re: Met Dave Lombardo at NAMM today

Nice! I haven't met Lombardo... yet. The one time I met Slayer was during an in-store at Tower Records in El Toro for the release of Divine Intervention, so naturally I met Bostaph instead. I waited in line for around 6 hours before we got in. My 8th grade brain was beyond stoked.

I remember going to NAMM ages ago (like, mid-90s) and sitting in on a guitar clinic with Marty Freidman. Dude shredded my face off! Then signed an 8x10 for me.

I went Thursday, didn't see too many players but got a pic with Abigail Ybarra. Last night was the Guitar Geek Festival, and I was really surprised by Paul Gilbert. He was really good...(not too many shredders go to the GGF)...going again tonight...

Here is some of my pics from NAMM...(All Gretsch here)

Re: Met Dave Lombardo at NAMM today

Chrisedge, did you get any pics or video of the Paul Gilbert show? I was considering checking that out last night, but I hear he wasn't scheduled to go on until around midnight and I already saw Eric Johnson at the Anaheim House of Blues earlier in the week. I chose sleep over Paul, but I've seen him live a few times over the years and he never disappoints. Fantastic guitarist and songwriter in any genre.

Re: Met Dave Lombardo at NAMM today

I taped (audio and video) the whole thing. Deke has given me the ok for the past 4 years to do my thing. I gave him all of last years footage to use in his DVD's. I will be posting stuff to YouTube starting tomorrow...

I really hope a pic of Jeff's arm is the cover for the new album.

Also can't wait for his Philm side project to release

Re: Met Dave Lombardo at NAMM today

I would like to go to this show but still have never made it out to one.

I met Dave years ago backstage after a show when he was with the Fantomas. Dave was pretty reserved but still nice enough. However the one I talked to for a while that night was Buzz Osborne from The Melvins. He was very cool.

Those Gretsch pictures are great.

Re: Met Dave Lombardo at NAMM today

I put a Paul Gibert video in the Deke Dickerson/NAMM thread...I had to use a different program to encode, so I only got two videos up the whole weekend. More to come though...

By that time, Hanneman was on his way to hospital, a further hour away. In the car, he pulled up his sleeve, "I could see the flesh corrupting," he recalls. "The arm was real hot. I got to the emergency room, and thank god the nurse knew straight away what it was. By chance, although its pretty rare, she had seen a case a little while before. At that point, I was an hour away from death."
"Unbeliveably, the doctor was a Slayer fan," says Hanneman, "first thing he said to me was: 'First I am going to save your life. Then I am going to save your arm. Then I am going to save your career'."
Wow, I had no idea how bad it really was...
"Its the kind of thing I might have written a song about," he acknowledges. "Everything that could go wrong this year did, but you know, it turned out okay. Satan had my back".

I love how casually Hanneman gives props to the man downstairs.
