Xbox problem

My Xbox has started having problems recently. It keeps giving me a disc read error on several new games (Arkham City, Skylanders, Harry Potter 5-7). These games play fine of our other Xbox. Thoughts?

Re: Xbox problem

xbox slim?

Sounds like you are getting a disc drive problem...a known problem...and if you are out of warranty you are fucked...happened to me a while back with my slim...

Re: Xbox problem

Actually, no, it's a "fat" type. I've had it for several years. Is it time to start looking at a replacement?

Naw, not worth the investment. Just hold out until the 720.

Re: Xbox problem

you still are getting the disc drive problem...it is just that the new slims seem to have more problems with it...I would get a new xbox and buy an extended warranty for 29 bucks..as many problems as I have had with 360s...I am never buying another one without protection...

(you can use your old hard drive on the new slim with a simple kit to transfer over the guts)

Re: Xbox problem

After my last RROD replacement, my fat has been going strong for three years. Fingers crossed.

Re: Xbox problem

I have a slim and been getting disc read errors occasionally on MW3. Hope it's just a fluke with that game and I don't have a bad drive - didn't realize it was a widespread known issue.

Re: Xbox problem

Mine just died yesterday. It kept saying "Open tray" for about a week. After 3-10 minutes of opening/closing it would finally load the game, but not anymore.

Re: Xbox problem

Mine has had the open tray problem a few times, there are videos on youtube on how to fix this. Most of them are people banging on the top or the xbox while it's reading. The one that worked for me was a video where somebody closed the tray really fast when they first started up the xbox, it somehow resets the drive, or something. Took a few tries but it's worked for me every time.

I don't have sound right now to listen to the video, but it looks like this is the same technique I used.

Re: Xbox problem

I tried the 'close the door real fast' trick but my door doesn't click shut when I slam it shut, it springs back open.

It's just some of the newer games.

Glad to hear it worked. I almost didn't believe it at first because the first few times it didn't work, but eventually it just works somehow.
