Same comments as for Target this week.

Wait. There is something, "Kung Fu Panda 2", I don't care for it.

Beyond that...

There is some confusion as to what's what; Target has a listing for a "Special Edition", that not mentioned in the Best Buy ad. It's not that "Collection" set as it's seperate. But that S.E. mention does not say it's Target exclusive.

So, I'm confused.

They're still selling and advertising DVD-only players?

I don't see any fantastic bargains this week, Target had X-Men for that price a couple of weeks ago and I didn't pick it up then...

Maybe if I hadn't completed my BSG collection a couple of years ago, $7.99 isn't bad for Season 4.5, about what these half-seasons ought to be selling for in the first place...

Oh well, maybe next week. -kd5-

Maybe, but I really have no reason to. My entire collection is DVD, my TV only does 1080i, and no HDMI... -kd5-

I'm not impressed, just not. It should be a default that all movies filmed with hi-res digital cameras already be 3D - as in the HD television is so incredibly clear that it looks like veiwing an through an open window, anything can come at you. The 3D Blu-Ray concept should be redundant. It's already in 3D because of the Hi-Def TV. Yes, I repeated myself.

But it's not.

For myself, I think the reason comes down to images.

I do a lot of work with pictures, a hobby.

When I see Blu-Ray movies playing at the store; all I see... as if someone took a good quality image - then ran it through PhotoShop, sharpening it and sharpening once again. Boom, Blu-Ray!

I'm not impressed.

If you're happy with it. Cool. To each their own. But I'm not jumping on the Blu bandwagon.

Maybe when that 2K format comes along.

Looks like just 4.5

$30 for Glee Season 2 on Blu is a really good deal.

I'm not impressed enough with blu-ray to change everything I own to it, it's just not that cool to me. -kd5-

I won't try to change your mind or anything, but you should know that 1080i vs 1080p makes no visible difference until you get into the huge screens or sit uncomfortably close. Also, HDMI and componant cables give the exact same picture quality. My good old 65" Hitachi Ultravision is also "only" 1080i without HDMI, and the picture quality between a well mastered DVD and a well mastered Blu-ray is staggering. I keep my old CRT well maintained without any of the crappy "enhancements" that so many of the new TV technologies rely on. I understand the complaints in this thread about displays in the stores looking over processed, but please understand that is a function of the TV and how it is adjusted, not of the Blu-ray itself. A well mastered Blu-ray on a well adjusted TV is really a sight to behold and you owe it to yourself to give it a fair shot. Plus there is nothing saying you need to upgrade your current collection (though you may end up wanting to). They will play just fine in a Blu player, and depending on the player, they might even look better too.

I was resistant to the upgrade at first too, but it really is awesome (if done right). Then again, good old DVD is still pretty awesome too.

Not trying to argue or change anyones mind...just wanted to point a couple things out from my own experience. Those that want to stick with DVD are still cool in my book! Just make sure you are doing it for the right reasons, not because of false information.

Well that's understandable since, to a degree (and with some exceptions), the higher the resolution the better the visual quality... hence the more life-like the image even though it's not 3D.

I did lots of work with pictures, also, but as a Photoshop-using publisher.

I understand what you are talking about, but that's not Blu-ray. That's the TVs. It's how the mostly-clueless employees of almost every retail establishment set up display TVs for the environment they are in, and... for the most part, those TVs aren't calibrated at all. They just set them up to look as bright, vivid and as sharp as possible under bright florescent lighting.

And just because some of those big-box retailers (Frys, BB, etc) now have some dark, home theatre-type setup areas, I wouldn't presume those TVs are properly setup either.

There's a world of difference viewing something on a TV properly set up for your home viewing environment, and what you see on TVs in stores.

I'm impressed.

I went Blu and haven't stopped buying DVDs, but those I do are films I'm certain will not see a Blu release. I'm also not replacing my existing DVD collection, except for those films that I consider special. And, with some exceptions, I don't get them unless they're on sale. My general policy is not to pay more than $10 to upgrade to Blu.

For Christ's sake, I know I don't have to upgrade my whole collection, but try this out for size: What's the point of buying a blu-ray player if I don't have any blu-rays to play on it? From what I've been reading, blu-ray players don't upconvert DVDs via component cable anymore, so what's the point? -kd5-

I think the point is it gives you more options. I bought a blu-ray player because it bothered me that blu-rays often have more content than DVDs and I would sometimes see the blu-ray for cheaper than the DVD. Starting to build a blu-ray collection now could pay off when you do decide to get a new TV. Without owning a blu-ray player, if you want to buy a movie, your only option is DVD. Sure, you could buy a blu-ray/DVD combo pack, but if you can't play the blu-ray, you probably feel there's no point. There's also the possibility that we're coming close to a time when there may be blu-ray exclusive titles.

Of course, I'm not advocating you go out and buy a blu-ray player today, but if your DVD player dies, don't replace it with a DVD player, go for blu-ray.

From someone who doesn't get a Sunday paper, thanks for the thread. I hit BB early this morning and picked up the one copy of BSG 4.5 that they had on the shelf.

Re: Best Buy Media Prices (December 11th - 17th, 2011)

Also other seasons of Galactica are on sale. Even though their site says that season 4.0 is only available online it was there at my store. 4.0 is $14.99.

So I got that and season 4.5 to complete the series.

Thanks OP!

I'm missing BSG 4.0 + 4.5, so as others mentioned, I might pick that up as well. Too bad BSG 4.0 is at $14.99 and not the same price as 4.5

Can you get the free Kung Fu Panda Po plush if you buy online?

I checked bestbuy.com and I could not find anything for the Po Plush after browsing the Kung Fu Panda blu-ray sets.
