Soul Calibur V

I still can't work up much excitement for this game but I thought I'd share this video since i know some here are fans of the franchise:

Even with the addition of Ezio Auditore, who looks appropriately badass, it just looks like a warmed over Soul Calibur IV to me:

Holy fuck that's awesome! Soul Calibur has always been my favorite fighting franchise by a long shot and seeing Ezio there.... so much better than Darth Vader or flipping Yoda. Must buy... so freakin' cool.

I loved SC4, and I'm sure this will be a first day purchase for me. I would've rather seen Altair than Ezio, but eh, either is better than Darth & Yoda. I just wish they'd throw Mario in there so I could beat his ass to ease some of my Nintendo hate.

Re: Soul Calibur V

Anyone get this? Worth it for the single-player alone?

Re: Soul Calibur V

I bought it because of the $20 gift card deal at Target but haven't played it yet.

Pretty much every review I read complained about how bland the single player experience is and that it's really an online game.

Because I'm dumb, I bought it anyway even though I always just play single-player, so...

Re: Soul Calibur V

I personally would get it for single player just to play solo. And enjoy the stupid story.

Re: Soul Calibur V

I just popped into a couple of offline versus matches to give it a whirl, and...geez, either the difficulty is a lot higher this time around, or my fake-fighting skills have completely atrophied.

...oh, or maybe I should set it to not pair me against Legendary Fighters.

Re: Soul Calibur V

I've really fallen out of love for fighting games, personally. Just a genre that no longer clicks for me.

The IGN review made it sound that it was repetitive and pathetic. They complained about the voice acting and that near the end of the single story mode, the bosses get cheap and they ramp up the difficulty a few notches more.

Edit - Here is the link of the review:

Isn't this true of pretty much all fighting games?

Re: Soul Calibur V

True but I thought the story mode on Mortal Kombat was an enjoyable experience.

I absolutely loved SC: IV, but I'm not a fan of 5...I'm glad I decided to RedBox it before purchasing.

Re: Soul Calibur V

I busted my thumbs playing this almost all day today. Basically, all the other crap like the storyline, the creation system, the other modes, are all fluff because the real fun is in just fighting. I played a lot online and got my ass whooped quite a bit. I also went through Arcade on "Hard" and got my ass kicked but eventually won.

The graphics didn't seem so great in this game. Especially playing with Ezio, who looks perfect in the AC games but here looks generic.

Also at times, it felt like I was playing Soul Calibur Tween Edition. I'm not really interested in Patrokles and these other teenager characters. I hope they bring back Taki and Sophitia.

I only redboxed it but I'd still be playing if I didn't bring it back. Online was pretty addicting. Also, don't tell anyone but I was playing online with a silver membership.

It's not as good as the last game but I still enjoyed the hell out of it.

39.99 at Amazon for either console. I'm done buying games at or near launch. I don't think I even opened this one, and I'm tempted to take it back to Target even though I got a $20 gift card with it.

I feel the same way after this year's Christmas season - it seemed like every title could be found for $20 cheaper within a few weeks of its release. Still, I'm going to have a hard time holding back a week from now when The Show 12 comes out.

Re: Soul Calibur V

I rented it this weekend. Nothing too special, but I'll grab it at the $20-$30 range. I can wait. Fighting a guy who was armed with giant meat kabobs was so funny that I couldn't even play -- I was laughing too hard!

Re: Soul Calibur V

NIGHTMARE!!!! Played this one and IV [hadn't before] this week. I actually liked the story mode but man chapter 18 was hell, finally got his ass by [being a bitch] ringing him out. All I need to unlock is Algol. I did miss playing with each character in story mode like IV [but it was also boring after a while], so the new story mode in V was a nice change.
