Showtime renews Dexter for 2 more seasons (re-signs Michael C. Hall)
http://www.deadline.com/2011/11/show...-more-seasons/
After lengthy negotiations, Showtime has closed a new two-year deal with Dexter star Michael C. Hall. With him locked in, the pay cable network has renewed its flagship series for 2 more seasons, bringing the series’ run to 8 seasons. Each season will consist of 12 episodes, with production on Season 7 slated to begin next year in Los Angeles. “Dexter‘s enormous success is a real tribute to the great achievements of its cast, producers, and the powerhouse performance of Michael C. Hall,” Showtime entertainment president David Nevins said. “The series is bigger than it’s ever been in its sixth season, both in terms of audience and its impact on the cultural landscape.” This past week, Dexter inched up again in the ratings for a fifth consecutive week, delivering 1.99 million viewers (2.61 million for the night), the show’s largest audience since the sixth season premiere. Season-to-date, the dark drama averages 5.12 million viewers per week on all platforms. “On behalf of the entire Dexter family, we relish the invitation to delve ever deeper into Dexter’s world,” said Hall, who is executive producing the show with John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Scott Buck and Manny Coto. The deal with Hall comes after some tense moments last month when Hall and Showtime reached an impasse after the two sides couldn’t bridge a $4 million gap in proposed salary for a new deal, with Showtime offering $20 million for two more seasons and Hall’s team asking for $24 million. That gap has now been bridged.
I posted this in Sundays episode thread, but this news IMO is worthy of it's own thread since this is one of the more popular shows in this forum.
With this renewal, I have to assume season 8 will be the final one.

Ugh.... I love the show... But 8 seasons seems too long. Just wrap it up and go out on top. Dont drag it out. They better atleast be building towards the end. Deb needs to find out soon.

No way. Keep on going. They have had some bad seasons (3 comes to mind), but they are keeping it fresh. Love this news.
Crazy. He's going to be one of the highest paid actors in TV now, too.

According to this update, David Nevins, Showtime's President, says that 7 and 8 will likely be the final 2 seasons. He says they are definitely building towards an end. I wouldn't expect an official announcement that season 8 will be the last until season 7 completes airing in Winter 2012.

Good news -- glad to hear we'll be getting two more seasons. This season has been decent, but far from great, imo. Plenty of room left for them to go out 'on top'.

Hopefully, it will soon be followed by "Harrison" about a young serial killer. It can be aimed at the teen audience.

Yeah, I did think of that. You are right. I was just joking about the Harrison show. It would be a bad idea.
Actually, there is a plan to make a Hannibal series. I think it is planned for NBC with Bryan Fuller producing.

I read Ray Stevenson was also added to the cast as a russian mobster. Cool.

Season 6 was terrible and Season 5 wasn't great, I seriously hope it regains a little footing.

I still like the series but do think it hit a couple rough spots the past couple seasons. I don't dislike the series but the first four seasons were stronger. I thought it got better in season six though compared to season five, although I seem to be in the minority. I think the next season will be interesting with the reveal in last season's finale. I hope the show can tie itself up strongly and end on a good note (if the next two are the last).

I stopped watching after the Julia Stiles season. I might have to give it another chance for Sarah though
