The Town: Collectors Edition 2/7/2012
I didn't see this one coming... I'm fine with the original release.

I really liked this a lot but I'm not sure if I'll double dip on it. Although the three hour version could be interesting to see. If that was included I may be inclined to pick this up if the price is right.

I'm surprised I don't have this on BD. Will pick up the CE.
As for the alternate ending, wasn't it the one where Ben Affleck died? In fact, I recall that he had to fight for the ending the movie currently has.

I may actually be in for this - assuming it includes both the theatrical and current extended cuts (and I suppose the possibility of a third cut).

I was much more a fan of the theatrical cut versus the extended. The whole drug sub-plot felt way out of place. I'll pick this one up if it has even more footage.

Re: The Town: Collectors Edition 2/7/2012
I found this over at IMDB:
The original cut that Ben Affleck screened for producers was 4 hours long. After realizing that the film would never appeal to wide audiences, he cut the film down to 2 hours and 50 minutes in three days. After screening that version, the studio and producers loved it but knew that it was still too long. Affleck and producer Basil Iwanyk eventually had to cut beloved footage and personal favorite scenes to make the film work. The film then went through more change at a studio standpoint when they wanted the film at no more than 2hours and 10 minutes. Eventually, Affleck cut the film down to 2 hours and 8 minutes, ultimately trimming action sequences, character development and dialog. Affleck, while happy with the theatrical cut, stated that an Extended Cut will be featured on the DVD and BluRay with deleted scenes on top of that. He also stated that, while the theatrical cut of The Town is a close adaptation of 'Prince of Thieves' (the novel which it is based on), the extended cut is a mirror of the novel, staying more true to the book.

Gah, and I just bought the Extended Cut. I like this movie a lot though. I might be down for double-dipping if it has the 4 hour cut.

Looks like all three versions are included. I didn't open my copy yet, so I'm going to return it and grab this one when it goes on sale

Definitely in for the three cuts but not interested in that silly Ultimate Collector's Edition packaging. Hopefully there will be a cheaper 3-disc release without all that useless crap.
That said, I doubt the further extended cut will be the four hour cut since this 3-disc set includes only one BD. Three cuts (via seemless branching), a documentary (assuming it's feature length), and six featurettes (unless they're aminute each), a commentary across all three cuts, and a thratrical trailer seems like a lot to cram into one disc. Especially if one of those cuts brings up the runtime to four hours.
I just realized that I've only seen the extended cut. It flowed just fine. Dunno what I'd cut out.

If all 3 cuts are included, I HOPE it means they will be via seamless branching. Otherwise, like the current release, the bitrate will be terribly low (13 or 14 Mbits/sec) which will make the picture nearly unwatchable.
Encoding houses, please learn to use seamless branching to author your discs! Why is this such a problem?

I really liked The Town and bought the blu-ray for around $10-12. I suspect this will be the only way I will upgrade - if/when it's around $10.

It just says extended cut with alternate ending. To me that doesn't sound much different than the reg extended cut. Unless there was something I missed...

that was my thought as well. I thought the TC was solid for the most part. I've yet to see the Extended...but I don't know if 4 hours really could have made it amazing. That's a lot to put in for a crime film.

Nah. The box is that big so you can put all the other versions in it.
All nice and tighty-tee.

Yeah, that link doesn't say there's any new version of the film. It just says there's an alternate ending, full length doc and memorabilia. I'll stick with my cheap BF version.
