Synopsis:

Spoiler:
Castiel (Misha Collins) doesn't kill Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Bobby (Jim Beaver) but warns them not to interfere in his business. Assuming his new role as God, Castiel sets out to right some of the wrongs in the world. Dean decides they should bind Death (guest star Julian Richings) and order him to stop Castiel, but the former angel is one step ahead of them, leaving Dean to face a very angry Death. Meanwhile, Sam struggles to deal with the broken wall in his head. Phil Sgriccia directed the episode written by Sera Gamble (#701).

Glad it's back. Awesome season opener. I do wish they had ran with Castiel being God for at least a couple more episodes though before leading into the Leviathan story.

Re: Supernatural -- Season Premiere -- "Meet the new Boss" -- 9/23/11

Some cool stuff, the scene with Death being the highlight, but the episode felt off.

Agree with the PBandit that they should have held up on the Leviathan storyline. I actually liked seeing the "downtime" the guys had being on the sidelines. Maybe some good old monster hunting for a few eps would have been nice. Also, while the Cas as God (Cod?) stuff was cool, the character was all over the place. Overall the story felt rushed, particularly the ending.

ps. I'm done with the Sam story.

pps. Also some great FX work in this ep.

I loved Castiel replacing Jesus in the stained glass window.

They did not run the Castiel as God storyline very long. I wonder if that had to do with network skittishness about offending Christians. It's one thing to do an episode built around the concept, but it would be a totally different matter if that was the central storyline for a whole season.

I think it was also a narrative dead end. This is much more interesting.

Re: Supernatural -- Season Premiere -- "Meet the new Boss" -- 9/23/11

I liked it a lot and was actually happy with the route they went with Cas....and man did they ever have a lot to say with this first episode - not too many commercials at all.

Having said that...I am also through with the Sam side-story..would be really nice to see them put an end to it soon.

Death was just cool as can be as always.

I honestly don't mind Dean being somewhat bitchy either...I think it actually works well and sets up the show for a lot of its lighter moments....It works because there really isn't much he can do about most of what's going on around them.

Yeah, I was surprised they didn't go at least one more ep with Castiel as God. But this was a heck of a season opener and I'm looking forward to the Leviathan storyline.

Also, put me in the camp of people that are tired of Sam's issues.

Cass as a badass God was the best thing this show has ever done. That should have been a season long arc. Buh!

The show has lost it's balls.
Kill off Crowley already. Or Cass. Or Bobby. Just do something. Raise the stakes!

Just started watching this show. I am just beginning season three. Luckily they are repeating the seasons in order so I am able to record them. I love everything about the show and am pretty happy that i have over eighty episodes watch not including this season.

Um, did you watch the episode? It looks like they did just kill Cas.

Yeah but not really as he's still around as the leviathans. They have also killed Crowley several times, but he always comes back.

Re: Supernatural -- Season Premiere -- "Meet the new Boss" -- 9/23/11

Technically they only killed Crowley once. And since they've killed off just about every other character on the show (John, Jo, Ellen, Rufus, the mullet dude whose name I can't remember), I don't think they're going to kill anyone else, except maybe Cas. I'm guessing Castiel might not live through the end of this season, but we'll see.

Killing off a character just to kill somebody has always smacked of shitty writing to me.

Fine, then don't kill off anyone but IMO something's gotta change. The show's been running in circles since season 5

Re: Supernatural -- Season Premiere -- "Meet the new Boss" -- 9/23/11

I'll keep this short since it's been almost 1 week, but I finally got to this tonight.

Pretty solid opening episode. Some funny lines from Dean as usual. Cass was badass as God. I know Misha Collins left as a series regular, so I wonder how this whole Cass as Leviathan storyline is going to play out. There has been no word on how many episodes he's going to appear.
