re: Canadian DVD Bargains

Hogan's Heroes comes out to $55 shipped. Not too shabby considering Amazon US has it for $68.99.

re: Canadian DVD Bargains

And I Dream of Jeannie isn't really a good price: $51.99 plus tax comes out to be a few bucks more than Amazon US.

Agreed. Higher price and fewer discs that Hogan's Heroes.

I'm thinking HH will end up being the stand out deal of the week.

Btw Americans need to pay tax when ordering from Amazon.ca?

re: Canadian DVD Bargains

Sorry, I meant shipping. Which is pretty excessive when coming from Canada.

For some reason it's the same way ordering from the US to Canada. My guess is it's double since both Canada Post and USPS get the full amount.

re: Canadian DVD Bargains

I assume this is the discussion topic requested in this thread?
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/forum-feedb...-bargains.html

If so, can a moderator change the title so it doesn't seem like a thread devoted to one particular show?

Here are a couple of bargains I've stumbled across recently:

Wal-Mart (in-store):
CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: DAWN TREADER (Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy Combo) - $15 (down from $32.93)

HMV (in-store):
ROGER CORMAN COLLECTION - Bloody Mama / A Bucket of Blood / The Trip / Premature Burial / The Young Racers / Gas-s-s / The Wild Angels / X: The Man With X-Ray Eyes (DVD) $15

BEST BUY (in-store/online):
BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY (Blu-ray, in single-width case with slipcover) - $34.99 (ends Thurs. Nov. 17)

FUTURE SHOP (in-store/online):
LORD OF THE RINGS: EXTENDED TRILOGY (15-disc Blu-ray/DVD boxed set) - $54.99 (ends Dec. 10)

Nice to finally have a dedicated thread for deals from up here. They're admittedly rare -- which is why I maintain a U.S. address -- but they do turn up.

I saw on another board that the Borzage at fox set is at HMV in Canada for 89.00
http://hmv.ca/Products/Detail/399074.aspx
I don't live there but it could help those who do.

You may be right about this. HMV's website isn't very helpful for catalog stuff, but I do recall seeing this in-store on the weekend. I don't think the price jumped out at me because I didn't realize how high the regular price was.

re: Canadian DVD Bargains

Might have to take another look at that one this weekend. Guess I didn't realize what I had in my hands. HMV's flagship store downtown has a massive selection of boxed sets—but any real bargains are just mixed in with everything else, so you tend to just spot things by accident. The rest of the stores also have increased selections of boxed and gift sets at the moment. Can't remember too many spectacular savings, although they did have:

ALIEN ANTHOLOGY (Blu-ray) $59.99
http://hmv.ca/Products/Detail/592856.aspx

If you click the yellow "gift sets" sticker, you can see other items available. Not all the best prices, but a few good deals in there.

re: Canadian DVD Bargains

If you have the massive John Ford at Fox set that came out before it, you'll now the thing is a huge set. As this set weighs something like that one. I got The john Ford set in some bn.com deal a while ago. Would love to have this one too. I wish I could get to HMV now.

I don't have the Ford set, but I've held it. It's on HMV's website—and highly overpriced as usual—but I don't recall seeing it in stores here for a couple of years now. Just checked price of the Murnau/Borzage box against the price at Amazon U.S., and you're right, that's a substantial savings you don't find up here too often.

re: Canadian DVD Bargains

This should probably be in the Blu-ray Deals forum, but hopefully other Canadians might find it useful even if it's buried in here.

Best Buy Canada has the following, lesser Blu-ray titles on for $4.99

FASTER
NINE
EXTRAORDINARY MEASURES
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL
PANDORUM
LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN
ATONEMENT
THE SACRIFICE
(2011)
FUBAR
THE TIME TRAVELER'S WIFE

Buying them at Future Shop, instead of Best Buy, allows you to take advantage of Future Shop's price-match policy, which matches $4.99 and subtracts another 10% off the difference, which in the case of some of these, is rather substantial. For example, LAW-ABIDING CITIZEN works out to $3.93 tax-in, FASTER to $3.62 tax-in. Probably not the greatest selection of titles, but nonetheless these are fairly reasonable prices either way.

Incidentally, the $34.99 price on the BACK TO THE FUTURE Blu-ray set at Best Buy appears to be held over until New Year's, so price matching that one at Future Shop (where's it grossly overpriced at $68.99) should bring the price down to $31.59 before tax.

Robocop Trilogy - $10 @ HMV + other sale items

HMV has a decent sale going on right now

The best deal IMO from the titles I saw was the Robocop Trilogy from MGM for $10

http://hmv.ca/Products/Detail/449690.aspx

The first Robocop is the unrated version that the director had to edit to get the MPAA to lower the rating from X to R.

Even on Amazon.com it runs for over $30
http://www.amazon.com/Robocop-Trilog...1833002&sr=8-1

Link to full list of sale items organized by price:

http://hmv.ca/Promotions.aspx

As an aside can a mod edit out that Hogan's Hero's reference in the title? When I created the thread I didn't realize that the titles couldn't be changed after a period of time.

On sale on AMAZON.COM for $35,99. I finally think I'm going to bite. What kind of cases are these in. They also have Wild Wild West for that but I hate it's packaging.

LORD OF THE RINGS EXTENDED TRILOGY down to $44.99 at Amazon.ca. Rare to see Canada get a lower price than the U.S., but I suppose it happens.

Yes, I like to use Inetvideo when seeking Canadian editions of DVDs with bonus features not on the American releases. Most recently, Splice (a few more featurettes than what's on the WB DVD). However, the most dramatic improvement w/ going Canadian is the DVD for David Cronenberg's Existenz. The USA Miramax DVD is barebones; the Canadian Alliance DVD is PACKED with bonus features (I love Cronenberg commentaries).

Anyone happen to know of other Canadian DVD releases with more features than the American ones?

Re: Canadian DVD Bargains

Amazon.ca has most of the TCM Greatest Classic collections on sale for $12.49. They've probably been cheaper, but rarely the whole lot at the same time:
