Re: Rescue Me -- "Vows" -- 8/31/11
This episode was hysterical... up until the final 15-20 minutes. The Chief's suit, Lou setting the "mood" for the conversation between The Gavins and Black mike's family, Tommy and Janet renewing their vows and Lou ruining Tommy's cake had me
But, fuck, at the end... great setup going into the finale!
Jesus Christ @ that commercial with Lenny Clark! That dude got skinny!

It was a real good episode. Too bad we had to sit through 6 weeks of shit. Heres hoping the finale makes up for these episodes.

I know Rescue Me isn't about the feel good story, but I thought they would get through the wedding day with the biggest hiccup being Tommy's fit about walking Colleen down the aisle. I'm a dumbfuck and must've really forgotten my Rescue Me history.
That said, I can't help but think that there will be a massive loss to the crew of 62 truck. I wonder if Tommy will obsess about Lou telling him to get out as a way to pay him back for the whole letter fiasco. I really hope that most of the crew doesn't die or get horribly injured, but in true Rescue Me fashion, I should expect just that.
I thought there have been plenty of elements present this season about what made Rescue Me so great. Unfortunately, they have a hard time getting the drama/story aspect of the crew, outside most firehouse situations, anywhere near right. Tonight didn't hit on all cylinders, but was certainly the closest they've been in a while. Hoping for something great from the finale to kind of rescue the memory of Rescue Me.

LOVED it. I thought the contrast between the nonstop hilarity of the wedding and fire scene at the end was brilliantly done.
I don't know who lives and who dies, didn't watch the preview, but this show really seems to be going out strong.

Great episode, and I dont think I blinked during the fire scene. Very intense.

Great episode.
So did Teddy give in to the "wine soda" making him strip and throw shit off the balcony at the end?
My personal theory... I think they will go for a poetic ending by having having Tommy somehow sacrifice himself in the fire to save Black Shawn. This is just pure speculation, so I hope there's no need for a spoiler there.

I've been working real hard to avoid the spoilers. Apparently the final season dvd is actually showing up at some Target stores early so the spoilers are definitley out there.
Personally, I'm thinking its Lou thats the goner right now.

Tommy's awkward conversation with Shawn's parents was classic Rescue Me.

My speculation:
It would also go along with an interview Dennis Leary did years ago about how he would like to end the series.

Isn't it possible that the end of this episode was just another Tommy Dream about his conflictions of leaving the firehouse to get a desk job like he promised in his vows. Lou tells him he can go and leave but in the end he feels he should be there with them always.

I actually wouldn't mind seeing them end the series with the way it originally started. Tommy gave the speech to the probies which included Mike in the first episode. If Tommy and Lou were to die, I would like to see Mike get promoted and give the same or a very similar speech.

Alright, this is has the potential to be a pretty massive spoiler, so I'll do it just in case:
Now for my own personal theory, not related to anything:
This whole series has been "It's a Wonderful Life" in reverse. The series finale is actually Tommy's funeral...after Sept. 11, 2001. He saw what his life would have been like, had he lived. At the funeral we'll see Jimmy, who actually did live through 9/11.
What struck me was Lou's final line to Tommy - go on ahead, we got this. Go on where? They were trapped. Go on ahead meant that Tommy could cross over and finally rest.
Again, I have NO IDEA what happens in the final episode, so this could just be my own insane fan theory.

^ ^ I've read about fire that you posted about, so it wouldn't surprise me if that's how it ended. I'm kind of hoping they don't go that route that you think because it seems like that would be the easy way out as many people have thought of that throughout the series. At this point, anything is possible though.
All I know is that Wednesday can't come fast enough.

Yeah I don't understand what Tommy was asking at the end, when Lou told him that he could go and they would be okay. Go where? They were trapped.

Maybe that's what Lou meant. Tommy could leave 62 Truck because even though he's one of the best firefighters, they will be fine without him.
