I was less than 2 weeks away from turning 8. My mother sent me and my brother to the store to buy some milk - and when we returned she told us that she just heard on the radio that Elvis died.

In the car, returning from Niagra Falls vacation. Heard it on the radio.
Mom won tickets from a radio station and saw him from the front row about a year prior at University of Dayton Arena.

On the way to see The Rescuers with my mom. I was going into the hospital the next for surgery, so the movie was my consolation prize.

I was 13 and watching an episode of Twilight Zone. During a commercial break, our local newscaster appeared onscreen with a brief news update saying that Elvis was dead.

My mom was a huge Elvis fan. I remember the lady across the street came over & told her "I think you'd better sit down". I thought she was going to say she was having an affair with my dad or she ran over our dog or something.
I don't remember her being terribly surprised though. They used to take me with them to his concerts every time he came through town when he starting touring heavily in the mid/early 70's. I was around 9 or 10. He was usually good, but the last concert was a disaster. In just a year he'd gotten fat & was stumbling around the stage sweating & forgetting lyrics. The media was a lot less intense then, so it was a complete surprise to see how far he'd fallen in just a year. When he walked onstage & removed the acoustic guitar covering his gut, that was the first/last time I've heard 20,000 people gasp in unison. He came through one more time after that, but she didn't want to go anymore. By the next summer, he was dead & it felt more inevitable than really sad.

I was only nine years old but I remember it like it was yesterday. My Mom, sister and I was over at my bother's house. His wife was fixing my Mom's hair in the kitchen. My sister and I were sitting at the kitchen table when my brother shouted," hey teeny-boppers, Elvis is dead."
Being huge Elvis fan and not believing my brother, we all ran to the living room and watched the special report telling of Elvis's death. My Mom, sister and I being HUGE Elvis fans, busted into tears while my knot head of a brother was laughing his butt off because we were crying.
I've always wanted to visit Graceland during Elvis week but never got around to it. It's on my things to do before I die list.

I was 7 and don't remember much, but I'm sure my mom was pretty bummed out.

I don't remember when he died but I do vaguely remember seeing him in concert less than a year before he died. It was December 27th, 1976 here in Wichita. I had just turned 7 years old. It probably was my first real concert. I don't remember many details but I remember that it was the fat Elvis, not the skinny Elvis.

I was 14 and sitting in front of the tv. I remember feeling sorry for Lisa Marie.

I was in a cemetery with some relatives, visiting the grave site of some other (presumably dead) relative. Heard about it on the car radio.

Yeah, I was wondering why this fat dude was all dressed up in a crazy outfit. This was probably around 1992.

Can't remember but Id guess that I was mastering walking, trying solid foods, seeing ghostly spirits, that kind of stuff.

Was 19, working in a restaurant. Had just unloaded a truck and was in the supply room putting stuff away. My boss came in and told me about it.

I remember because I wasn't born yet. I don't know how that is possible, but it's pretty impressive. Not sure which one of us should take credit for that anomaly.
