Holy crap! Outdoor stage collapses at Indiana State Fair
Scary video at the link
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/44133994...dianapolis_in/
Looks like a freak accident, as the stage looks like it twisted and lost all support on one leg. Once it started to fall, there was no stopping it.
Five people now reported dead. So sad.

Seems crazy to go forward with a concert in those conditions... I wonder who's call that was.

That sky looks ominous... and holy shit at that video. I just saw this on the news and I wonder if they chose not to run with this particular video. It's not particularly gruesome, but definitely more disturbing than the other angles shown.

The same thing happened in Canada last month at a Cheap Trick show. Nobody died there though.
This is terrifying because it's so random. Of all the freaky ways one can die, being in the front row of a Sugarland concert is not where you'd expect to take your last breath.

The thing is though, that those conditions can just come out of nowhere. I lived in Indiana for a year, and summer weather was often unpredictable, and could change almost at a moments notice. You could have sunny skies one minute, a major thunderstorm the next, and half an hour later, it'd be like it never happened.

^
Yeah, the initial reports I read said that the weather changed very dramatically very quickly.

^ yep. Had a storm like that yesterday. Clear sunny skies all day, storm came out of nowhere around 5pm, now the first day of school is canceled because of schools not having power.

That concert should have been canceled and cleared the second the skies started looking like that. No one should have been hanging around long enough for that to happen. I'm sure the band got the hell out of dodge....

From what I heard, the band was about two minutes until going on. They were probably shitting their pants after that happened.
The winds that came in arrived about a half hour before they were supposed to, and it hadn't even started raining when that gust hit. There was really no way to know that would have happened like that when it did, but since they knew the storm was coming, I think they should have at least postponed until it blew over.

The crowd as a whole is definately moving away from the stage, to find shelter. It's just that a few stuck near the stage, I guess to have a great location once the wind blew over.
In Indiana, you don't get close to the stage. The stage gets close to you.

as someone who lives in Indiana I must say, that's why you never go to a Country Music concert...you get smashed by the stage.

There was even a mention of possible tornadoes that evening. From my house I saw that the clouds were moving quickly east which is the direction that the stage collapsed.

I am really really surprised more people weren't killed when the front upper part of the stage came crashing down.

I was watching the video and you see a guy with blackshirt/white cap near where the stage was collapsing..then you see him disappear and then a white hat reappear from the wreckage...it was insanity..I couldn't even imagine.

Re: Holy crap! Outdoor stage collapses at Indiana State Fair
The band actually went into a underground shelter to wait for a few minutes to see if the weather improved on the advice of their manager. That most likely saved their lives.
