Friday Night Lights (based on TV series) [UPDATE: Dead -- Killed by Lance]

After today's TCA panel for NBC's Prime Suspect, the series' executive producer Peter Berg confirmed that a movie version/sequel to his critically acclaimed NBC/DirecTV drama series Friday Night Lights, which recently ended its five-season run, is in active development. The movie is on track and the script is being written, Berg said. "We're very serious about trying to do it," he said, with a goal of going into production next year. The project would be produced by Universal Pictures -- the studio behind the 2004 movie starring Billy Bob Thornton -- and Imagine, with Brian Grazer producing. It would feature the cast of the series led by Emmy nominees Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.
Peter Berg, creator of the Friday Night Lights TV series and director of the other movie, confirmed the development of the movie. It would star Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton.

According to this story from TV Line, Jason Katims, the showrunner and head writer of the TV series, is also involved.
The show ended so perfectly. I loved the show to death, but I have to wonder if there is a market for this movie considering hardly anyone watched it on NBC and it would have been cancelled after season 2 had Directv not gotten involved.
Also, the show ended with Eric and Tami in Pennsylvania. I wonder if they would make it take place there or have them come back to Texas. Texas is more known for their high school football scene.

So the TV show that was inspired by a movie is getting a movie based off the TV show? I love Hollywood.

I can't see this actually being made. It seems like it would have the same problem as the proposed Arrested Development, Veronica Mars, and Party Down movies would - why would a studio throw money at it, considering its limited audience? Especially considering the belly flop that was Serenity (theatrically, at least).

It's was a critically acclaimed show. I don't think any reviewer/critic had one bad thing to say about it (except season 2.)
Brian Grazer produced the TV series/previous movie and his company Imagine would make the movie. He's a big name producer so I'm sure he will get Universal to pay the bill for the movie. I think they can make this movie with an Indie movie budget ($10-15M)

All joking aside, I adore the TV show, and if the story is good, I'm down for another visit with Coach and the family.

Yeah like I said, I think Universal could make this movie with an Indie budget ($10-15M max)
Kyle Chandler and Connie Britton aren't huge name stars and I'm sure they love the show enough that they would do it without hesitation. Getting Jason Katims involved with the movie is good sign too.

Grazer tells me they are absolutely moving forward with a movie version of another Imagine series, Friday Night Lights, and they will likely use crowdfunding to directly tap the rabid fan base of that drama for some of the budget. “We made a terrific feature with Pete Berg, turned it into a terrific TV series and will now make a movie from that series,” Grazer said. “I’m not sure such a thing has been done before.”

How exactly would they do this movie with Coach and Mrs Coach having moved to Pennsylvania? Julie and Matt are in Chicago I think and Street was in New York. Riggins is most likely still in Dillon building a porch for his house. I have no idea where Lance is (yes i know his name is Landry)

I had no interest in this show, but got hooked and absolutely loved it when my wife wanted to watch the first couple episodes on Netflix. It's one of the best onscreen marriages of all time. I'd love to see more of Coach, Mrs. Coach, etc., but this crowdsourcing thing is getting absurd. Brian fucking Grazer putting his hand out for cash? Come on.

You are so far up your own ass that you must think the whole word exists in your intestines.
