Maybe it's somehow regional... in Texas the coupon became effective today through Sunday. I got an e-mail on 07/26/11.

Post it. If you are able. It'd probably work for all.
They sent a coupon that was not as good as usual a couple weeks ago with a 20 dollar purchase requirement that recently expired.

Thanks for the heads up, as I didn't get the coupon via e mail. Picked up Alias S4 for $9. One of my top wants and a good deal. May hit another Half Price tomorrow.

There is one in Louisville but I have never been in it. Do they have many Blu-ray or TV on DVD titles? And is it mostly new or used?

Picked up three seasons of Highlander: The Series on Blu-ray for $8.99 each with coupon. Unfortunately the shitty upconverted PQ is so poor on these releases I should have stuck with the DVDs.

Re: Half Price Books - 40% Off Coupon
I'm pretty sure these were sold to the store by an individual and not something they carry regularly. You can usually tell the stuff they get straight from a distributor by the yellow or red pre-printed price sticker that includes the item's name. If it has a white price sticker with just a price and a date, it's likely a used item that they bought from someone. The Highlander sets were in great condition, but I've never seen a legit release look as bad as the first season set (and it's the "remastered" version without the unremovable side bars).

Remastering only means that new masters were created for a given release, it does not mean that any restoration happened. And an new masters are completely dependant on the quality of the source.
If the Highlander TV series was only recorded with video cameras rather than filmed, the picture quality won't get any better than what you see on a DVD. Though Blu-Ray encoding does allow for better color and sound than DVD encoding.
The Doctor Who Restoration Team has commented many times about this regarding Classic Doctor Who releases. Since the episodes were recorded with video cameras the picture quality is limited by the camera's resolution. Note: some segments were filmed in several episodes, but the shift in picture quality from lower quality video source to higher quality film source and back again would likely be very jarring in an attempted HD release. One serial was filmed entirely in 35mm though, Spearhead From Space could have a worthwhile Blu-Ray release if the BBC/2 Entertain wished to pursue it.
Thanks for the heads up about the coupon Undeadcow -- for some reason I didn't get an email about it either.

Re: Half Price Books - 40% Off Coupon
Ok, went to the Hurstbourne Lane store today. Looks like a treasure hunt type place. Books are a great deal. DVD's I fount not so much. They had one full book shelf rack of Blu-Ray out of probably 20 racks. They seem obsessed with pricing titles at $14.98 so Blu-Ray was not much of a deal there. They had a large selection and there was a few deals but for the most part not much for me. Might check back again in a week or so if another coupon pops up.
I did find a complete series of King of Queens that appeared new that would have been about $55 with coupon. I thought about buying it to flip but that set is one of the most heavily boot legged so I was a little to nervous to buy.
But I must say they had some awesome cashiers they offered my coupon back and said use it all you want today. So I did!
