Help me find some hack and slash games.

Primarily for the 360. I am just about finished with Dante's Inferno and love it and I am about to order Castlevania LoS.

I have a PS3 in the FR never use it for gaming, actually I never use it for much at all, but I will be getting GoW3 to player there but thats it.

I have read good things about Darksiders and Ninja Gaiden II but wanted to see if there were any hidden gems out there that not many know about or are great games that weren't comercially successful.

C'mon list your favorites and help me out!!!

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

Bayonetta was critically acclaimed but lackluster in sales
Batman Arkham Asylum was popular and sold well
Brutal Legend had potential but didn't stick to hack 'n slash unfortunately
Enslaved was critically well received but didn't sell too great - it has a ton of fans
Darksiders is a good mix of Zelda and God of War.
Ninja Gaiden II has nothing on the first.
On your PS3 you'd probably like Heavenly Sword which is more akin to Dante's Inferno and God of War (though imo nowhere near as good, but some seem to dig it).

Old school hack 'n slash is alive and well on XBLA:

Those were the first few that came to mind.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

One that's coming out in a month or so that sounds very promising is the new LOTR game -- War in the North. It's made by Snowblind, who made the classic hack-and-slash, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. It's up for pre-order at Amazon with a $20 preorder credit. I'm thinking of picking that one up.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

Conan was actually really fun, bloody, and full of boobies. Probably less than $20 now.
Sacred 2 is still the best Hack and Slash dungeon crawler out there, also less than $20

I looked up Sacred 2 and its not what I like. I'm not into the magic stuff just kicking ass and easy to follow power ups. Conan looks cool. Might give it a shot.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

I second the Wolverine & Batman Arkham Aslyum games, warning about Conan...some of the bosses will make you pull your hair out. There is Onechanbara too if you are looking for pure hack n slash.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

Does Arkham Asylum really qualify as hack and slash? You had to be pretty careful about picking your battles and not just go in all guns blazing.

Its not I played and loved it but its not what I'm looking for. Didn't like the look of the Wolverine game.

Does Conan have a puzzle solve aspect? Cause I do like a little puzzle mixed in.

Here is another good one you might want to try, Devil May Cry 4.

What about its look don't you like? Its almost purely hack and slash, and a really bloody one too!

Don't let the fact its comic movie based dissuade you.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

Demon Soul's is a hack and slash, but the death mechanic could be a little frustrating. It's definitely a more difficult hack and slash, you can't just mash the attack button.

From what I saw it didn't seem epic enough. That might sound dumb if it does forgive me I'm new to these kinda games. I'm looking for something along the lines of a GoW 3 clone.

And for the one that mentioned DMC4 I did play that awhile back and liked it but it didn't trill me.

I tried the bayonetta demo and hated it. I just was looking for a badass dude with an outrageous weapon and has some puzzle elements.

I just ordered Castlevania LoS and Darksiders but was hoping I missed a good one.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

You will like Darksiders. It's a good looking, fun GoW clone. Sequel is on the way, so if you like it you'll have that to look forward to.

But (and I may be wrong on this), as I understand it Hack And Slash is a description of a different type of game. I think it refers to the Diablo or Baldur Gate grind it out, loot and level up gameplay. What you want is what we now refer to as a "God Of War clone". That's why you got a lot of answers that were not what you were looking for.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

If this is your first foray into God of War, may I suggest you buy the God of War collection before you play God of War 3? (the collection is GoW I & II from the PS2 ported onto the PS3, in HD and trophy support). Then in mid September another GoW collection is coming out titled Origins, which are the two PSP games (Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta) ported onto the PS3 in HD and trophy support.

If you can wait 'til mid September the actual chronological order of the series (not release order) is:

Chains of Olympus
God of War 1
Ghost of Sparta
God of War 2
God of War 3

I haven't actually played the PSP games but I hear that is the best order to play the games in.

Sorry for taking your topic off-topic for my post.

Re: Help me find some hack and slash games.

Decker you are probably 100% correct. I guess a clone is what I'm looking for. I also like the real time events on the bosses. I played the demos for Darksiders and LoS and liked them.

JSBulls thanks but. I'm looking for 360 games.

Viking was a decent and cheap hack and slash game.

Also check out the demo for Ninja Blade. I still have to pick up that one sometime myself.
