It'll never happen as long as Fox has it's Marvel properties.

Sam Jackson get his own film? What's a matter, the cameos in Iron Man 2 and Captain America weren't bad enough?

'Captain America: The First Avenger' Sequel Will Hit Theaters On April 4, 2014; Story Will Pick Up After 'The Avengers'

With Marvel now moving in earnest to find a director for the expected sequel to "Captain America: The First Avenger" they have gone ahead and announced a release date -- April 4, 2014.

Yep, it's a bit of way off but fans will no doubt be excited that the superhero is headed back to the big screen. As we heard a few days ago, a number of directors are being eyed to take over from Joe Johnston, and staying true to their tightfisted approach, it's a batch of inexpensive folks including George Nolfi ("The Adjustment Bureau"), F. Gary Gray ("Friday," "The Italian Job") and Joe and Anthony Russo ("Welcome To Collinwood," "You, Me & Dupree").

While is there is no official plot, it's interesting to note that the studio logline reveals that "Steve Rogers continues his affiliation with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D and struggles to embrace his role in the modern world." So while Neal McDonough said earlier this year that Marvel wanted to shoot 'Cap 2' at the end of this year, this date gives them some breathing room, and we presume a spring 2013 start is probably more realistic (and will give them time to coordinate schedules for the handful of Avengers that we presume will inevitably cameo).

Hopefully the Winter Soldier will make an appearance in a Cap sequel.

Agreed. I would think they'd release a tentpole like this in May at the earliest, but Hunger Games has proven you don't need Summer to make a mint.

Weak list of directors. Why isn't Johnston doing this?

I wouldn't mind F. Gary Gray, but I really liked Law Abiding Citizen and Italian Job.

The Negotiator and Italian Job remake were good ones. I'll file Law Adiding Citizen under utter crap. Not so much for the others.

They gave us the horrible "You, Me and Dupree". They have also directed episodes of Community and Arrested Development.

As long as they've nothing to do with former wrestling writer Vince Russo, I'm happy. (Only wrestling fans will know what I mean. )

Marvel makes some very interesting choices when selecting directors. Either these guys had a great vision... or they came cheapest.

Again...why is Johnston not doing this? Cuz no offense to him but...he's not exactly the busiest of guys. He's kind of the guy a studio gets to get them what they want and he does it without bitching cuz he wanted to do it.

Hopefully in the sequel, Captain America sees some footage from the news or something of him in those cheesy pajamas and commissions someone to rebuild his costume from the 40's.

Or at least make the modern day costume look as cool as the concept art. Because there's nothing inherently wrong with the design of the new costume. It's the actual fabrication that leaves a lot to be desired.
