Rescue Me -- Season Premiere -- "Mutha" -- 7/13/11

Synopsis:

Spoiler:
The seventh (and final) season begins with Tommy's family life being shaken up by Sheila and the pregnant Janet, who are now best friends. ("We bonded," Sheila says.) Meanwhile, Black Shawn wants to take his relationship with Colleen to the next level; Mickey and Teddy go into business together; and Damien is still in a chair in the wake of his on-the-job accident.

9 episode final season.

Looking forward to seeing this come to a close.

Someone made a comment last season that they think:

Spoiler:
Tommy actually died on 9/11 and this whole series was just a dream or some fantasy in the afterlife.

Does anyone still think that? Would you be pissed if that's how the show ended?

If that rumor is true it's lame, unoriginal, and stupid.

Yeah that rumor would make no sense, and would also piss all over the dead cousin visions.

I hope that isn't true. It was someone on this board speculating. I don't remember who made that comment.

I would like to see some closure for Tommy Gavin whether it's happy or him dying in a blaze of glory.

Is it 2011 already? That seemed like such a long way off when the last season aired.

This is one of those shows that I like everything about it but the main storyline. I had enough of Tommy Gavin's repetitive women & booze troubles by season 3.

Hopefully they can redeem themselves after a horrible last season. I don't think I even finished the last five or six episodes and just opted to read dvdtalk posts. Sad to see how terrible the show got and I'm hoping there is a quick turn around or I'm out.

Yep. The best parts of this show are where the guys are shooting the shit and busting each others' balls.

This is the final season. If you made it this far, you might as well finish it out and it's only 9 episodes.

Re: Rescue Me -- Season Premiere -- "Mutha" -- 7/13/11

The final season was supposed to be 19 episodes. But, FX decided to split it up to 10 and 9 for a 6th and 7th season so that it will finish close to the 10th Anniversary of 9/11. That's why season 6 aired almost 1 year ago. They actually started shooting the final season in Fall 2009, so these have been in the can a long time now.

It looks like the Series Finale will air on September 7th.

I would absolutely hate the premise that he died in 9/11, although I do think it would be marginally interesting if the cousin was the one that was actually alive, and the "visions" were opposite of what we all thought...

Re: Rescue Me -- Season Premiere -- "Mutha" -- 7/13/11

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see how they end this. It's had it's ups and downs. Last year was better than the two seasons before it, but not nearly as good as the first few years. I did read that (major plot point)
Spoiler:
there will be one major death this season. I don't know who it is or when it happens, but it's said to be one of the main characters.

i gave up on this mid season last year but I'll try to get through these final episodes. Anyone care to spoilerize any main character developments or plots?

Re: Rescue Me -- Season Premiere -- "Mutha" -- 7/13/11

Well, there goes Colleen's sobriety. Good luck with her black Sean.

I enjoyed it. There was a few funny lines. But the episode was mostly about Tommy, Janet and Sheila and I know most of you guys hate that aspect of the show. Janet is still a bitch, loves sex and has really fertile eggs at age 43.

at Sheila saying that Janet called Tommy "A Walking Hard On with a Fire Helmet."

at Mike getting pissed off about Jersey Shore and it's stereotypes.

Tommy blasting the shotgun at the bar was an interesting way to end it. Let's face it the raunchy comedy/shooting the shit aspect of the show is pretty much gone now. The show is pretty much dark drama about Tommy Gavin's demons.

I'm not surprised that this was more of the same old. The Janet-Sheila union is just idiotic imho.

Re: Rescue Me -- Season Premiere -- "Mutha" -- 7/13/11

This was one of my favorite shows, top 3 maybe of all time, for the first 4 seasons. But since then I've gotten sick of the Tommy, Sheila, Janet love triangle that is never resolved, and everyone quitting drinking and then relapsing. It's just too derivative. I have to agree that the best part of the show was when the guys were busting each other's balls, and that has taken a far backseat to the dramatic part of the show.

I still love the show and will watch it to the end, but it's a good thing it's over this year.
