Glad to hear this will be the director's cut. Nice cover too! Lionsgate titles often end up being heavily discounted, hopefully this will be the eventual case with Mimic.

I already have the theatrical Blu from Canada, but I will gladly double dip on this.

More than anything, I am really happy to see that this is more than just a port of the old Miramax DVD like the Scream Blus were. It makes me think Lionsgate might put this extra effort into future Miramax disks.

Definitely in for this!

I'm surprised, this art is better than the original art

It's a fun flick but it pussies out during the third act. Hopefully the director's cut rectifies that failing.

The final sequence is what irked me:
Spoiler:
Northam somehow survives both what looked like a tendrill through the chest and a massive underground fireball? I kept waiting for him to be revealed as a mimic at the last second. Does anyone know if this tacked-on happy ending was enforced by the studio?
The film is streaming in HD on Netflix if anyone wants to refresh their memories. I thought it had a few good scares and a decent level of atmosphere. I had forgotten how cute Mira Sorvino was. Can't remember the last time I saw her in anything.

FYI, this was initially announced as a Wal-Mart Exclusive on September 27th. I think the odds are that's no longer true, but it's worth remembering, just in case.

Should be very interesting. Did the studio start messing around during production or post-production? Also, I remember reading Del Torro being at odds with Rob Bottin. I wonder what that was about.

What an odd movie for Wal-Mart to have as an exclusive.

I was already pissed when
Spoiler:
Mira Sorvino was kidnapped. All other assaults previous to that (even the little kids) led to death from the Mimics. The moment they used the chiche'd "damsel in distress" routine, the film kept going downhill.

Very exceited about this one. I dont believe it was ever released on anamorphic DVD so the leap from shitty 4x3 letterbox to full blown HD should be great!

Re: Mimic: Director's Cut - 9/27/11

here's what I found in the ending...

Spoiler:
In the original ending Doctor Susan and the kid come up from the subway into Grand Central Terminal only to be confronted by hundreds of commuters dressed like Long John. This ominous ending didn't test well so the 'happy' street scene ending was shot and appears in the final cut.

sooo...would that make it better?

Spoiler:
I can see why the Mimic would kidnap her from the station platform, as killing her there might attract attention, and leaving her body there definitely would. Since it would have to remove the body either way, the quick grab made sense, but the Mimic would certainly have killed her right away afterwords. Although she needed to be rescued in that particular situation, I wouldn't say that it was an extended use of the "damsel in distress" cliche, as overall she was a very proactive and capable character. You're right though, there was no reason for the Mimic not to kill her immediately after spiriting her away to its lair.

Of course it would. Yet another reason to dislike Harvey Weinstein.

Re: Mimic: Director's Cut - 9/27/11

I didn't mean that it was an extended routine but rather that, when that moment ocurred, it was a sign of the movie making a turn for the worst.

However, you're right about Sorvino's character (and Sorvino herself).

Fucking sweet. I barely remember this movie. I saw it as a kid when the VHS came out for rent and thought it was ok. I LOVED Mira though. The only reason Im getting this though is Del Toro.

Really excited about this one, I never even got the DVD since it was so weak. August/Sept are delivering some great catalog releases!

I've never seen this, but I love del Toro's film so a blind-buy is guaranteed. Kudos to LG for loading it up and letting him recut the film.

Great looking release. I caught this on Netflix for the first time a few weeks ago and while it's not my favorite GDT film, it's still very, very good. Can't wait to see his cut of the film.

The pre-order price is currently $10 at Walmart - if enough folks tell Amazon about the lower price on the product's page here (click on "tell us about a lower price" at the bottom of Product Details), perhaps Amazon will lower it's price as well.

Haven't seen this since its theatrical release. I don't remember seeing Josh Brolin in this. How much screen time did he have?
