CHILLERAMA (2011) (dir. Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Tim Sullivan, Adam Rifkin)
Chillerama is an upcoming direct-to-video comedy horror anthology film consisting of four stories (or segments) that take place at a dusk 'till dawn monster movie marathon in an old school drive-in in Southern California. Each segment are homages to a different genre and style. Filming took place in late 2010 and is scheduled to be released in late 2011.
The first segment is "I Was a Teenage Werebear" and was directed and written by Tim Sullivan. It is a spoof of Rebel Without a Cause, Grease and The Twilight Saga and set in 1962. It stars Sean Paul Lockhart and Gabby West. The second is "Wadzilla" and was directed and written by Adam Rifkin. It is a spoof of 1950s monster movies and stars Rifkin. The third is called "The Diary of Anne Frankenstein" and was directed and written by Adam Green. It is spoof of Hitler and The Diary of Anne Frank and stars Joel Moore. The last segment is "Zom B Movie", a spoof of zombie films, and was directed and written by Joe Lynch.

I'll check it out but the amount of times the word "spoof" was used already has my stomach churning.

I'm sure it'll be terrible. Only one of these guys has made a decent horror film (Green's Hatchet) and I'm sure they're going to overdo this one so much it'll miss the mark entirely. I like the concept, but I don't see any of them being able to pull it off.

Yeah, I'd be more interested in they weren't pushing the spoof angle quite so much. I usually don't like movies that are spoofs of 50s drive-in type movies... they're already so cheesy and campy to begin with that to spoof it further seems excessive and a bit pointless (MST3K is an exception). The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra seemed like forced badness to me.

The only thing that Tim Sullivan's directed that I've seen is 2001 Maniacs, which I kind of hated, and although I've seen some of Adam Rifkin's stuff, none of what I've come across has been horror.
I absolutely agree about Cadavra, especially the way it'd latch onto the same few jokes and hammer them into the ground again and again and again and again, but I think the biggest stumbling block with Cadavra was trying to fill a feature length flick. It could've been a really great short. If each of these segments are 20-30 minutes each, they could still be a blast without overstaying their welcome.

Who is that actress in the Shocktilyourdop photo above? Looks a lot like Elaine Hendrix. Would LOVE to see her and Adam Rifkin team up on this, as they were both in LAST DANCE, one of my all-time fave late night B-horror movies. Also glad he's working on this--love the other stuff he worked on, Invisible Maniac, Psycho Cop II.

I don't know, sounds like it could be fun, the trailer didn't really excite me though. I kinda want to see it still... but I don't want to pay for it

Have you seen Joe Lynch's Wrong Turn 2: Dead End? It's might be the best splatter-comedy of the past ten years...everything you dug about Hatchet but ten times more of it.
The only thing that Tim Sullivan's directed that I've seen is 2001 Maniacs, which I kind of hated, and although I've seen some of Adam Rifkin's stuff, none of what I've come across has been horror.

2001 Maniacs is better than that film, but not by much. I found it to be more fun, and with lots more boobs.
But, really, none of these guys has made a bonafide horror classic, hit or cult film.

Wow. The Diary of Anne Frankenstein is a killer title and the one I actually had some hope for based on the descriptions, but in that trailer it looked like the worst of the bunch. It just looks like a bad ripoff of Mel Brooks.
Maybe I just don't like Adam Green's work. Of his films I've only seen Hatchet, but I sorta hated it. They hyped it as a throwback to classic 80s horror, but it reminded me more of mid-90s direct-to-video schlock like Jack Frost or Uncle Sam.

Looks awesome. I can't wait to see this. Adam Green is fantastic. All four of these dudes, are perfect for something like this.

I'm in the majority that this looks like shit. Both Black Dynamite and Grindhouse worked because they not only paid homage to films from their respective eras, but were made to look like films from that era. Let it be Rodriguez doing all of the manipulation in post or Sanders and Tarantino shooting on low-stock 16mm and 35mm film respectively; both films treat their genres with respect while they place their tounges firmly in cheek.
This... I don't even know what they're trying to accomplish with this.

I saw Chillerama at the premiere in LA last week.
It's super gory, ludicrously audacious, funny as hell, trashier than the worst of bad grindhouse.
Anne Frankenstein is definitely the high point of the film. The less one knows about it going in, the better, in my book. It's one of those "it has to be seen to be believed" types of movies. And even then, it's still hard to believe.

I'm going to stand up and say that I didn't much like Black Dynamite either. All of these retro grindhouse films are going to be at least a bit self-conscious, but BD played so stilted to me. It had some fun stuff, but it the stiltedness and being so over the top killed it for me.
Frankly, Grindhouse is the only one of these types of films that has really clicked for me up till now and I love exploitation films. I just can't stand MILES over the top kinds of films.
